Look at this freaky thing I found on Google Maps (PIC)

http://thsrv.com/p/googleearth.jpg

I've seen aircraft shadows before (really artifacts due to movement), but never one like this, with one part sharp and the other blurred. The aircraft size also looks out of proportion to the objects on the ground. Freaky! :helpme

Red Ezra 08-12-2007 08:17 AM

that's weird and you might have too much time to play around on google maps like this - have fun

Sosa 08-12-2007 08:21 AM

almost looks like a scene out of a video game

You betcha. I use it to help find potential sites to photograph. I have over 60,000 image tiles to review... or if it were a single flat image, 3.9 gigapixels worth of data

Vitasoy 08-12-2007 10:14 AM

That is pretty darn cool.

I'm thinking perhaps Space Invaders....

GeXus 08-12-2007 10:55 AM

Just another sprinkling of free publicity by google... anything you see that is "odd" on google maps, is intentially so.

stillsexy 08-12-2007 10:57 AM

yea...there is always a reason why they do that...

gecko 08-12-2007 10:58 AM

That is neat

DaddyHalbucks 08-12-2007 12:00 PM

Interesting, strange color for a shadow, looks more like a reflection.

Clark Miller 08-12-2007 01:22 PM

Hmm... publicity, really? I halfway believe that.

KILL_FRENZY 08-12-2007 02:11 PM

looks weird

It's not really a shadow, it's an artifact of the way the image is captured. If the object is moving at speed then it shows twice.

Lonely immortal 08-12-2007 04:13 PM

I saw one like that of a 747 a while back it was flying somewhere over England

Intricate 08-12-2007 04:21 PM

What are the coordinates?

Uh, it's in Australia, and those "rainbow" colours are the livery of Virgin Blue aircraft. :Graucho

I wonder how high the aerial photograph aircraft fly - this location isn't too far from Melbourne Airport...

rapmaster 08-12-2007 07:11 PM

maybe it's just 2 aircraft at different altitudes

M0nk 08-12-2007 08:35 PM

steved 08-12-2007 08:39 PM

That's where my impressionist ground painting of a passenger plane went!

potter 08-12-2007 09:26 PM

yeah that looks a little weird.

pornguy 08-12-2007 09:48 PM

RawAlex 08-12-2007 10:07 PM

Google maps has some weird things in it... near my house it goes from winter to summer square to square, and the streets don't exactly line up. I think they try to fuzz it a bit sometimes to make it less obvious.

If you look around Monaco, and try to trace out the F1 track, it gets really fucky where the tunnel is, a whole chunk of the city isn't right.
