Asteroid Showers Tonight and Tomorrow night

You should be able to see as many as 60 per minute if you are away from light sources. With a new moon this year, viewing is predicted to be better than usual.

Watch for falling rocks!

Sounds like it could end up being a great date...

thanks for letting me know, add some wine, a blanket & a girl on the balcony & it will make for a good night

BlondeBecks 08-11-2007 10:29 PM

thanks for the info....looks like it'se to dust off my telescope. I think that Casa Nova has the right idea..........

Note to self: Call and make date for "asteroid showers"

eroswebmaster 08-11-2007 10:31 PM

pretty dark out this way, we're almost at the foothills here so we also have better elevation...gonna have to go sit outside and play on the laptop there.

Redrob 08-11-2007 10:35 PM

The TV said it would be best to go out after 11pm CST.

A telescope is useless. Eyes are the only thing you need.

hey Redrob these "showers" are caused by COMETS not asteroids.

Chr0makey 08-12-2007 03:25 PM

st0ned 08-12-2007 03:29 PM

Awesome thanks for the heads up! Gives me a reason to venture out of my cave ;)

darkwood 08-12-2007 03:39 PM

I have seen it before and it is incredible, I am hoping for clear skies tonight.

F U S I O N 08-12-2007 05:09 PM

Are you sure it's not supposed to be 60 per hour?

mattz 08-12-2007 05:14 PM

Meteor showers typically don't transfer to film well. :2 cents:

mattz 08-13-2007 12:50 AM

I didnt see anything here in FL

Paul Markham 08-13-2007 12:57 AM

At 1.00 EU time I saw one for a split second. Very disappointing. :(

D 08-13-2007 01:01 AM

Yeah... living in L.A. - without the time to drive an hour or two North this weekend - I didn't even bother trying.

Light pollution probably washed it all out.

Hope some GFY'ers got a good view, though.

mattz 08-13-2007 01:07 AM

I just saw like a flash of something moving, is that supose to be it?

mattz 08-13-2007 01:36 AM

K I was just out for about a half hour, saw about 10 of them looking towards the northeast pretty high up, so if anyone wants to see they are still going on

Bill8 08-13-2007 02:14 AM

They've been okay, not fantastic, but the meteors are nicely bright blue and moving fast. Saw about ten decent ones over about 40 minutes. A nice night, warm, just a bit of high hazy clouds that you could pretty much see thru clearly after the eyes adapted.

I was glad I took the time to watch them.

Time was between 4am and 5am.

Sarah_Jayne 08-13-2007 03:35 AM

I was going to stay up and try to watch it but in a big city it is nearly impossible to get a good view of these things.

jdc 08-13-2007 03:35 AM

60 per minute? woah that's so many!
