Any NASCAR Fans?

I did a search and found a couple of older posts including this
quote from Amp... "fuck Nascar."

Lots of stuff on F1 but not alot on NASCAR

My dad started taking me when I was 6 or so... I have been to all
the tracks in the southeast and it is by far my favorite sport.

If you are a fan who is your driver?

Just wondering....

I am a Tony Stewart fan. I know a lot of people don't like him, and I can understand why. But I don't care, that makes me like him even more.

This has been a great season- very competitive. It's shaping up for a great finish.

kuwawawah 09-06-2002 11:29 PM

maybe next years Christian Fittipaldi, don't follow nascar much but Tony Stewart is a pretty versatile driver.

bunky 09-06-2002 11:32 PM

I am a NASCAR fan...have been since the early 70's when my dad used to take me to the races in Daytona. Then I lived in Daytona for many years and still have 2 houses in that area. It gets in your blood...it's great...and I still have all my teeth, and never a cavity :thumbsup No mullet either.

Speaking of Tony Stewart...he just can't keep himself out of trouble. I wonder if Home Depot and Joe Gibbs are finally giving him the axe today?

NASCAR is the most boring motorsport on the face of the planet.

That would be NBA Basketball in my opinion :thumbsup

Hooterdog 09-07-2002 07:18 AM

that would be hockey

Zayne E. 09-07-2002 07:58 AM

I love baseball but in the grand scheme of things, it's pretty damn boring.

Now...if you want to talk true excitement, how about curling?!? :thumbsup

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

tuffruff 09-07-2002 08:04 AM

Want to talk boring. When you live in the middle of a cornfield and Peoria, IL is your biggest town nearby you wouldn't have believed the hype when the womens professional billiards tour was here last week. ESPN16 I think it was covered it. You would think we were having a heads of state meeting in town all the local press it got..

Well at least we still have Big Als...:glugglug

I wasn't aware that Basketball was a motorsport. Forgive my ignorance. Same goes for hockey.

I'm a big motorsport fan; I mean I watch F1, CART, IRL, rally, superbike AMA, and so on. But I just can't stand Nascar, it's so fucking boring. The cars are slow as fuck, too big without any reason; and there's a bunch of untalented drivers there. I tried to like it, I tried to watch a couple of races, but I can't; it's really a very bad show. Nascar fans must live in the past, the cars were cool 50 years ago, but we're in the high-tech years now. I don't get why this is popular in the states, you need to see some real racing (bikes or open-wheel).

FreeNetPass Dave 09-07-2002 10:48 AM

I used to hate nascar (thought it was boring), but then I got into a couple of NASCAR gambling pools. Every week I have a driver, and it makes the races a blast to watch. I am basically addicted now ;) I can see why it is one of the most popular sports in the US.

Favortie driver? Hmm, tough. I actually like Rusty (probably because I love ML). I don't think i have yet established a fav. driver though, this is only my 2nd year.

I'm in almost the same boat as you - I used to hate it too. I can enjoy any sport that I'm betting on though, and that now includes NASCAR :)

I always made fun of my friends who liked NASCAR, but this year, they finally convinced me to give it a chance, and it's not half bad. The hickness of the sport still annoys me a little, but it's not as bad as it used to be.

Favorite Driver: Jimmie Johnson.

daisy diaz 09-07-2002 05:05 PM

I love NASCAR. And Junior, ohhh what I would do to get a piece of that hottie! But the sport itself, even if he wasn't involved..would still draw me to it! (until NFL kicks in, anyways)
:thumbsup

Move on up Junior:)

quiet 09-07-2002 05:08 PM

i'm a huge F1 fan - not into NASCAR-type racing at all.

thechink 09-07-2002 05:15 PM

I've enjoyed nascar for years. the problem I have with it now is it's gotten way too commercial. But, before anyone says that nascar is boring, you must attend at least one race, preferably bristol. what a wild show !:glugglug btw, the f1 drivers are a bunch of premodonas(sp)

dirtyone 09-07-2002 07:02 PM

Ok I am back... Glad to see all the fans here I didn't realize there
were so many. I have to say this about NASCAR though.. this is a
true American sport.... born of the bootleggers in the hills of
North Carolina and while it has gone corporate it still has it's
roots... Show me any other sport where the fans have as much
access to the sport (ie the pits, drivers, and cars) One thing that
appeals to me and a lot of other people about NASCAR as
opposed to F1 is these guys are driving "real" cars (I use that
term loosely) that you and I can go to the showroom and buy. I
don't think there is a dealer that sells F1 cars...LOL... Anyway
enough of my rambling back to Richmond and a big GO NUMBER 9
baby!

You ever watch the 250cc grand prixs? That's the most exciting motorbike racing in the world in my opinion. I mean, the top 4 riders nearly always finish within 3 seconds of eachother. The lead swaps almost constantly. Real nail biting stuff!

CART series. You can actually talk with drivers and touch the cars.

Nope but you can buy rally cars... I have nothing against Nascar, I simply think it's boring and doesn't doesn't have a lot of talented drivers. It has been said many times, even by drivers, that car setup accounts for 90%+ of the performance on ovals. If you think Nascar is the top thing in racing, you need to look at other type of racing. It doesn't mean you can't find it entertaining... But you can't compare a rally or racing bike driver with a Nascar driver... And you can't compare Nascar cars with F1/CART cars.

You bet, too bad we have a lame coverage here (Canada); I should get speed channel. That's the sad thing, these guys are awesome, and nobody knows about them ; while 45 years old burned nascar drivers are national heroes.

JTW 09-07-2002 08:35 PM

RE: NASCAR, What do you guy s think about "giving" your lap back. I say nice guys finsh last. Tough night for big orange, going from 3rd to 30th in 4 laps due to trans probs.

How in the world does #40 stay in 1st?

Snowone 09-08-2002 01:35 AM

F1 is flashy and bright and the race is usually over at the Start.

When was the last time a F1 car blew tires, 2 different times, went laps down and ending up winning the race???

Generally, when a open wheel car has a problem, they park it...

Tony had a Great night till the last 4 laps. Dale Jr. surprised me with the 4th place finish. And one of my good friends will be glad to know there really is another Sterling fan out there!

And of course most of us hardcore NASCAR fans are still mourning the loss of Dale :(

dantheman 09-08-2002 08:59 AM

here's a couple of reasons to go to a nascar race:)

Big E 09-09-2002 09:18 AM

If you're not a fan of NASCAR, just bet a couple on a couple of drivers and you'll be hooked. (sigh) It's a good thing I've been making a LOT of money on NASCAR this year.. =)

BTW, go Jimmie Johnson from El Cajon! heh heh
