Are you Web Designer or just useless?

I've just about had it with designers and here's why...

Read the brief - typos in the site name make you look like idiots! And if you leave them there for 3 rounds of alterations...

You have a folio of great stuff, you do great stuff for other people, but I get helvetica in grey, on a grey background. And you made me wait for "something stunning". Who do I have to fuck to get the one guy in the office with any skills?

I give you ideas and lash-ups which you barely tweak, let alone improve upon, you just add some outer glow or a drop shadow and send it back along with a request for payment. Here's a clue. I'm hiring you to do things I can't and add some creative input at the same time.

No, I won't brief yet another account manager over ICQ or MSN - I don't care if the first one has issues at home or has just been abducted by aliens! My time is valuable too, and don't any of you keep notes on anything?

Stick to the deadlines you offered me, and don't whine about "other" clients when I'm moaning about the timescale YOU offered, and YOU failed to keep to.

Pay attention! If you have too much work, charge more, do less and do it better. Do you really think we can't tell when your attention is elsewhere and you're typing in 5 other ICQ windows? Finish some work, before taking on yet more!

Rant over. Dare you to send me your folio link. :disgust

There is a HUGE difference between "webpage designers" and actual high-end web design teams. There is a reason that high-end studios charge a lot more for their work (you get what you pay for)...

Quick question web designers ...

I would like to get into web design work... is it more the issue of creating nice graphics or is it more the overall layout? I know how to use CSS... my site is www.PrismVoD.com and it is done 100% with CSS for its layout with XML... It's a TGP / MGP, however I did not use any fancy graphics... Since for me layout using CSS is easy... I was wondering just how much is put into the graphic side of the website as for it to be seen as a good site by web developers.

Thanks all for your time,

.

This is the reason why you have to pay the price for research and developement too. You cant except adult compagneis too do that for you with the price they are charging... they are only charging you for design as is.

Only guys I've seen in adult that can really offer this are :
envision next
dickmans

We've just had leading mainstream compagny re-do all our site... took them more or less 3 months to get it straight. And it looks like a 3-5k $ design job... nothing close to what we paid. But what isnt showing up is that for every little thing they designed on the site, they made 10 different versions and 4-5 main designs for us to choose from. The way the content is exposed on it is a whole other thing. That's what they worked on.

You get what you pay for.

you pay top dollar, you get top dollar attention.

everytime i have used a "cheap" designer to cut some $ it was a disaster.

i would recommend anyone choosing designers, pay for the best.

2cents

good luck with your issues. :)

Its all about the portfolio. If you like it, order some work. If you don't like it, why even bother? It won't work.

I always ask my clients if they like what they see in our portfolio. If they don't (and some say that), why did you come to me then?

SimonScans 08-07-2007 02:31 PM

No, I mean typos in the LOGO the designers send to me for approval.

I wish my experience had been like that - frequently its the big studios who grade you as a client then assign you the newbie if you aren't a priority to them.

Who are you considering "big studios"?

Dickmans are on my list, and in fact, I mailed them earlier today. They do some lovely stuff. There's always money for development - and in fact I always offer to pay per hour ands not per project as I don't want the designers to feel they need to hit a budget. Time is precious and I do get grumpy over that, but money isn't.

But when you order work and it looks nothing like their folio, what then?

ahh.. then if they can't pay attention to one of the most important elements as that, you can't expect much.. sorry to hear that!

you are the client - make them redo it. Point out what you like and what you don't like. Most reputable companies should have '100% satisfaction guarantee' policy. We do :-)
