How Wordpress Makes Comments SEO Unfriendly
I love wordpress I really do it makes it really easy to publish, however the wordpress developers really need some help sometimes. It seems when there is a choice to make things SE friendly more often than not they make worst choice possible
Case and point lets use one of my favorite test subjects Matt Cutts. Lets take a look at this SERP for example. The one that concerns me the bottom one http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/harry-...hoo-logo/feed/ For every post wordpress generates a comment feed url. Why does this matter? Well Google will index these feed URLs and up until a day or two ago these would be labeled supplemental. From Googles perspective it makes sense, because comment feeds are distinct URLs and 99% of the time dont get links. Why is that a problem well without a critical mass of authority/trust, sites having a large amount of supplemental pages is considered a negative indicator and a gets a subsequent ranking drop/filter. To make things worse theres no easy way to get into View the whole story |

Dude, did you just turn GFY into your own personal blog? Hahahahahahahahahahaha This shit is going too far. |
yes, wordpress makes feed pages for comments, and it certainly makes sense from blog's angle. But when it comes to indexing those pages, bots, especially Gbot are no so smart to distinguish real pages from those feed pages which definitely can bring on some issues with supplemental index, especially with google. They'll be flaged as dups and labeled as supplementals. From my experience and from Matt's blog, it should not matter at all, BUT only if your site is 'strong' link wise. If you have just few links pointing to your pages and don't actually pass any pr to all those feed pages, all of them will be put in sup. index.
That said, with adult blog you can hardly make it w/o sups at all, hence your may be ranking only for main keyword that is in your domain, or somewhere on the main page.... It's very hard to have all your pages ranking well in Google SERPs because most of them are sups and have very low link value. Wordpress is a great blogging software, my advice for everyone with wp blogs, is to try making your site more quality than getting tons of anyway useless links. Remember it's always better to have quality than quantity! Enjoy bloggin' ;) |
