webalizer: how do you guys calculate 'uniques'?

Just wondering when we talk about traffic, what stats do you use to come up with a number to quote as a monthly traffic figure? Is there a standard calculation? I'm using webalizer.

webalizer sucks, use AWStats :)

what's the difference that matters?

Use either the "sites" or "visitors" column in webalizer, google for more info.

I did google it and read the explanations for the stats, but that is what led to my question, how does that translate into a tangible number that would represent what people toss around as a traffic number for their sites?

for example, according to my webalizer, one of my sites did 700 visits and 5000 sites yesterday, what would be the proper way to calculate or refer to a traffic number for that site?

go by visits

Use histats.com instead.
