When I was a kid, people I knew made "******" jokes all the time. I haven't heard any in a long time. Hopefully, this means the country has come a long way. I hate that shit!

But, maybe it's because I moved outta White-Trash-Ville. I dunno.

No, Gemini. You misread my post. My feeling should have been clear when I wrote "Hopefully, this means the country has come a long way."

When I said "I hate that shit!" I meant I hate those kind of jokes. My father taught me when I was a kid if anyone made a joke like that I should not be quiet but speak up and tell them what they are doing is wrong. That is a very tough thing to do all the time but I always have .. even when I was one guy against 20. I love women!

There are some "******" jokes in Finland.

We also have jokes about gypsies, blondes, women, gays, Swedes, Russian, Norwegian, Finnish, French.

Are all these jokes wrong or just the jokes about black people?

Aren't we already assuming some kind of racial discrimination if we want to exclude a group of people being joked at?

Nobody cares about jokes about white people, but if it's about black people, it's wrong. Doesn't that show that racial discrimination exists in their mind..?

I didn't really MIS read your post, I was more addressing the slag that will come in and start posting that BS. lol Invariably these posts seem to be a magnet for those that think they are funny and start the line of jokes, which start with race and gradually descend beyond the sense of humor of single celled organisms.

Saw a guy in a bar one night that was just chock full of Indian jokes and finally the hubby had enough and threw him thru the glass door. (He doesn't appear to be Native American) So for you guys that think you are just TOO funny, ya never know who might be sitting close by. :winkwink:

Oh and blonde jokes aren't all that funny (I was born blond) as MOST of YOU were as well. :1orglaugh SOmething like 90% of all babies are born blonde haired and with blue eyes which change to their adult colors in the first few hours or days at most.

A vast majority of humor is based on race, ethniticity etc, but there might be a time and place for that dark side. (NOT saying its right to use)

Bear with me since it will at first seem like a posting for another thread.

There are guys who say inappropriate things in photo sessions. Now, a nude/erotic/porn photo session lends itself to a lot of different kinds of humor. Some guys have the knack for knowing what's funny and tolerable and what isn't. I tell guys, "If you can't sense the difference, this is the wrong field for you."

Likewise with ethnic jokes of any sort, if you don't know what will offend and what won't, don't tell the joke.

There's obviously a lot of tenderness in certain areas, especially when the "joke" (which is supposed to be fun, right?) comes from someone in a group that once oppressed (and in many respects still oppresses) the group which is the subject of the joke.

Someone once told me that the Japanese word for "foriegner" also means "strange person" and even sometimes "monster." At any rate, let's not fall into the trap of thinking that Westerners represent all evil and everyone else virtue. There are certainly many countries a Black person could live in and be much worse off than in America, and many of those are in Africa.

At any rate, back to the supposed superiority of Asians. As in the West, the precepts of religion are often translated into seemingly contrary practice.

If the caste system in India doesn't embody racial prejudice, what does? The light skinned higher castes are more closely related to the Aryan invaders than the dark-skinned indigenous people, which make up the untouchable caste. Improvements are being made there just as changes in attitudes are going on in the USA.

The point being that the various kinds of social prejudice are fairly universal, and in many ways are much more along the way to extinction in the West than elsewhere.
