Saddam would have made the football team very very rich and possibly even give them some kind of honourary degree.

They would be national heroes and he would have let the Iraqis party fucking hard to celebrate and not shot any of them.

I saw the story of TV yesterday and was happy for them. Then I heard that 6 people have been killed by stray gun fire in the celebrations.. lol

perhaps because when they won the earlier game 60 some people were blown up as they celebrated

True, need to avoid that.
But it's not like 60 people will not get killed in the next 2 days anyway.

It might have been worth a longshot risk that a happy celebration might bring all sides together and lead to a truce.

Kind of like how the LA riot actually saved lives for years to come by prompting a truce between the Crips and Bloods. Meaning, what looks bad might turn out good.
