Software for dropped domains
 

Anybody has a suggestion of the software they use to monitor dropped domains. For example, I want to get a daily email of all domains that are expiring next day that have a word "xxx" in it and then if I like any of them it'd automatically registers it for me through GoDaddy.com as soon as it hits midnight ( or whatever the time when it becomes available ).

I've been using IPalert and picked up a few so far. Snap Names seems to pick up a lot of them before pool or godaddy for backordering however. I don't like that fact they spread them across a bunch of registrars as well and I can transfer them to my main one for 60 days. Wish I could prefer a registrar to have it done at if I win an auction through them.

Can you also include the prices with you answers in terms of how much they cost?

There's no real magic involved, so whatever you go with for the needs you described in the first post is going to be just as good as the next one. The lists of names that will drop each day is almost always the same so Droplist1.com is going to have the same list Droplist2.com has. The differences will be what they do with the names in the list. That is, which additional metrics are provided at a glance or upon additional research. The task of simply sending a daily mail with the list of names that will drop the next day containing a keyword is simple. You could even do this yourself, as I explained earlier.

Do any of those applications let you know if someone has already backordered a domain? For example, "zzsex.com" expired last night but when I went to register it - it was already taken. Did someone automate the process and how can I do the same?

A back order is a service where a company will attempt to register a domain for you the moment it becomes available. In the case of zzsex.com, it was caught by Enom's ClubDrop. Usually, you would have to let them know of your interest in the name but they also grab almost every name and offer it in a public auction for a few days or less. You may be able to register this one manually if you try it again right now, or in a few days.

Snapnames, Pool, and ClubDrop are the most successfull backorder services currently and neither of them restrict it to first-come, first-served. If the name is any good, one of the three is probably going to get it before GoDaddy does, and if not it will be very rare that GD does get it.
