Freedom.

The ability to sue anyone for anything is one of the more ultimate freedoms of expression.

Actually winning a lawsuit, however, takes a bit more than simply suing someone.

It's not easy. It takes a lot of courage to sue McDonalds for causing you a panic attack by leaving a spot of ketchup on the floor which you thought was blood left by a serial killer hiding in the bathroom.

because most Americans are spoiled little pussy crybabies who need validation every time something goes wrong with them, instead of just realizing that shit happens.

Yes I was thinking the same. Takes a lot more to win it.

Holy shit, someone actually sued McDonald over that? or did you make that up?

Always remember the first time I had a drink and chatted with a neighbor who was an elderly lady. At that time, had no idea what she did professionally and it turned out she is an international jurist.

So, we chatted a bit about legal systems internationally and turns out that was her speciality - resolving international disputes, jurisdictional problems, border disputes, human rights issues etc both as a judge and arbitrator.

This was a *very* balanced lady who chose words carefully and was obviously very good at seeing both sides. When we hit on the US justice system the initial reaction was a rolling of eyes :winkwink: - tho she did then expand on the pro's and con's - but was obviously not impressed.

One of the biggest problems is that in the US if you file a lawsuit and lose you just pay your legal bills while the defendant is stuck with his bills.

If you changed it so if your brought up the suit and lost, you would then be responsible for both sides legal bills like it is in other countries. That alone would knock down frivolous law suits in a big way.

Angelo22 07-28-2007 02:00 PM

Well.... the real reason is:

Too many stupid (not to mention useless) laws over there
