2 TV News Choppers collide during car chase in Phoenix

Did anyone else hear about this? This is sooo sad - I can easily see this happening again especially in a big car chase market like LA - RIP - Here's a few links...

Just was reading about it, very sad.

Darkhorse 07-28-2007 02:09 AM

Didn't know about it, but think ya right it will be something that happens again.

sirkakashi08 07-28-2007 02:51 AM

man, that was terrible.

Casa Nova 07-28-2007 03:18 AM

WOW thats definitely a crazy and unfortunate accident. There are so many car chases these days, it was bound to happen.

GatorB 07-28-2007 03:28 AM

No doubt the people that caused the chase in the first place will be charge with 4 counts of manslaughter. I don't get why people run? If you live in a big city you WILL be followed by at least 1 helicopter. There is no escape. Why try? Why get additional charged added? Can someone show me even ONE case in which a car was being followed by police and news helicopters and got away? There isn't one.

alby_persignup 07-28-2007 04:11 AM

damn!! shit happens!

I think it is two things maybe - 1) they either want the attention and street cred running and knowing they inevitable - or - 2) they have nothing to lose and will do anything to keep from going back to jail again.

That would be ridiculous..

NTM 07-28-2007 06:44 AM

I don't feel bad for them. They knew the risks. You can't have multiple aircraft flying around chasing cars and not have shit like that happen.

The FAA should actually be sued for letting these aircraft be wived from normal traffic rules. They only need one aircraft in the area and the images can be rebroadcast.

Fuck them all. I feel bad for golfers that couldn't play through.

no shit

Which was a greater danger to public safety: one idiot car driver evading a police stop, or a bunch of helicopters darting around near the chase?

That would still be ridiculous... If a cop dies during a car chase because he had to speed.. then yes.. But this accident was caused by 2 news helicopters competing for ratings and getting in each others way...

sorry... FAA is not going to determine that some jackass, driving a truck on the ground caused two helicopters to collide in the air.

i swear to fucking christ man... do you do special exercises to hone this perfect stupidity you have?

This thread is useless without video.

I've always said that these news choppers are like vultures that come down on accidents and car chases for the only purpose of sensationalism. They have no real benefit but to entertain housewives. All they do is create more noise pollution.

It's definately sensationalsm at the core - instead of news it's just live unscripted reality tv unfolding for anyone who will tune in - who wants to bet they have already purchased two new news choppers to replace the ones they lost? next accident waiting to happen.

That's ridiculous... they weren't asking to be chased by the news, it was the pilots that caused the crash.

It's not him that's saying it... someone from the police dept speaking on the news (police chief or something) suggested it I believe.

rowan 07-28-2007 10:52 AM

- "Moments After Crash Distraught Fox Pilot Describes Witnessing Impact"
- "KPHO Helicopter Pans to Crash Moments After Collision"

Does that mean there were at least 2 more news helicopters airborne at the time of the accident? Unbelievable.

I've heard about USA TV breaking into normal programming to cover a live car chase... does it really rate that well? Jeez...

rowan 07-28-2007 10:54 AM

<pan to helicopter crash>

"We do have major breaking news..."

Fucking vultures.

Really? Seems I'm right.

"Phoenix Police Chief Jack Harris has said the suspect will likely also face criminal charges for the deaths of the four people on board the two helicopters. "

I'm 100% sure the guy wasn't asking to be chased by the cops either.

Saw this on the local news and one of the police said they would be attempting to charge the driver of the car being chased for the deaths of the people in the chopper.

Seems pretty insane to me. Not sure how the driver caused the helicopters to collide, unless of course he was driving hairy potters flying car...
