iDropped my iPhone into the OCEAN!
Long story short, I bought this phone for 830$ like 2 weeks ago. Last Saturday I had plans to go out which I did, partied, had plenty of drinks, ended up at this girls really nice house on the ocean..We spent the end of the night on the dock which was pretty far out into the water...
So anyway we are all sitting around, actually trying to get some crabs with chicken, a flashlight and a few nets. We caught a few, everything was going good, we were all still drinking, everyone was completely gone by now. So I go to take a seat on the edge of the dock, out comes my iphone which must have been half way in my pocket. I just happened to grab the headphones before the slack was out all the way. The second it got tight (the iphone was just about to hit water and I had my hands on the end of the headphones), snap! the plug to the headphones come right off, no way in hell I could have saved it, it happened way too fast. So I began to scream every cuss word known to man, as a good friend of mine tries to fish it out with the net. After 10 mins of me screaming, and him searching, he finally says AHHH I GOT IT! and he brings it up, after cleaning it off It looked it exactly like it was, just filled with water.. So as soon as I got home i put it into a bowl of rice, which i heard will absorb the water.....Then I checked my reciept, which said there is a 14 day return policy(monday was going to be the 14th day) but it said nothing about exchanging because of a defect/water problem/ anything along those lines... So what do you think the kind people at at&nt did? |
Dont leave us hanging....

Oh and btw everybody, the price tag was $830 because of the deposit, activation, case, and all other bullshit they charged. |
if it dries out just pretend nothing happened and return the bitch

If you put a component in pure alcohol it should displace the water and then quickly evaporate when taken out. However, if your phone was on there's the possibility of a short which would make complete recovery unattainable.

Whats goin on... Im on the south shore so technically it fell in the bay.. Its just, the bay didn't seem as interesting as the ocean for a thread title, haha. |

I was actually worried about that, so I did the best I could by drying it out in the bowl of rice for 2 days, which was on top of my very hot cable box. But I managed to take the sim card out, which had some pink stuff on it, i figured that was from the sticker so I used some paper and got most of it out from the inside. But ANYWAY!!! So after going to at&nt and making up some bullshit story, remember this is the 14th day, so technically i can return it, but since it wasn't turning on they said they can't do it. So they sent me to apple, which apple then sent me to at&nt to try to exchange it, following them send me back to apple!!! I had to check in there uber elite mac reservation line!! Which I can see how much time followed by my name on every screen around the entire store!! 10 mins pass (im already 1 hour deep into my adventure), This guy calls my name asks me what happen. I told him I went to the bahamas, i used it once down there, kept it in my baggage yadadadadad.. He plugs it in, and the damn thing turns on full screen, but it looked all messed up. So im like let me see, and i touched the button and it turned off, from then on he couldnt turn it on. So hes like ill be right back, takes my reciept and phone. Then he comes back with a brand new 8gig iphone & my old sim card, does what he has to do on his part and tells me since its only been 14 days im just gonna give you this new phone, so here it is take care. =] Mission accomplished, OHH but wait! I did spend 30$ after that because I threw those damn headphones way far into the water after the iphone went in. So they got me for 30$ headphones, but I didnt mind... But thats my iphone story... :thumbsup:thumbsup |
you are one lucky mofo!!

Never let the man hold you down
|
Haha, I don't get this iPhone hype. Am I the only person on Earth who is totally content with a simple phone?

I grew up in Oceanside and Long Beach .. I'm now out by 63 on the LIE and right on the sound. I like it but its different being on the sound.... no waves :( |
You're one lucky guy. :) This Thursday we went out on a lake in a sailboat to shoot a couple of scenes and I was really worried that my cameraman will drop our brand new camera into the lake. Mind you it's a 10k camera...It almost happened once because of a bigger wave, but we managed to bring it back to shore without any water damage. Now that would have sucked. :1orglaugh

I've dropped my treo in the water twice now, and it's still worked afterwards... I've always pulled the battery out fast, and then let it dry for a couple days before putting the battery back in.. You're very lucky you got an exchange on the iphone, rather than them saying they'd just repair it..
|
Damn man, you were lucky to get a new iPhone!!
|
You're very lucky, getting an exchange could be considered fraud since it was your mistake and not a manufacturer fault...
If you happen to drop it into salt water again then just evaporating the moisture won't help because the salt will crystalise and eventually corrode the internals. Clean water -> alcohol -> rice |
