Switch to Gaim. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't auto add someone when they add you so you have to write down their icq number or name and then click add a buddy.

i had 200 contacts in general
i deleted about 10
and it let me add people in general again
now it is doing it agan but im at 200 in general but i can add to other categorys
