Get paid to chat?

That hahahahahahahahahahahaha place.... They pay you .10 cents per post????
Hmm... so if you posted 5 times per minute (once every 12 seconds) you would get .50 cents per minute. That makes $30.00/hour? Beats the hell out of working minimum wage i would say. Chatting for 4 hours/day pays $3,600/month? Am I missing something?

FATPad 09-04-2002 04:26 PM

Is that .10 cents as in $0.10 or $0.0010 per post?

Lane 09-04-2002 04:28 PM

dude, no way you can post 5 posts per minute for hours

that makes 300 posts in an hour.. are you fucking crazy? even Amp averages about 30/day

Plat 09-04-2002 04:46 PM

its a good idea, but that board must be full of shite posts

Morgan 09-04-2002 04:50 PM

i dont think there is a rule for how many posts you can make and yes i think its a dime per post. i could be wrong.

roseyrid 09-04-2002 04:56 PM

shit...amp you could retire on something like that :)

Rictor 09-04-2002 05:00 PM

I would say it's more like 1 post every 5 minutes, 12 posts an hour...$1.20 an hour...don't quit McDonald's yet. Unless Gary will sell you one of his posting bots (TM).

Rex 09-04-2002 07:09 PM

Sounds like an easy livin'

Rictor i dont know how slow you type but 5 minutes to make a post? Are you paralized and type by blowing into a tube or something? Or do you use your cell phone to post?

Maybe you are thinking threads instead of posts.. . who knows

miss^behaving 09-04-2002 09:24 PM

Well, if they are required to be legitimate, full sentence posts that actually address the subject at hand, it would be pretty hard to post a ton. Especially if the board has a 30 second flood protection like a lot of boards I have seen.

booker 09-04-2002 10:19 PM

I hate to bring this up again but someone started the thread so here goes.

I got into this board that pays you to "chat" at the beginning, and posted a ton. I racked up 1000 posts which was when they pay you $100 (at 10 cents per) per month, and posts roll over to the next month.

Well, some people didn't like the fact that a newcommer was posting.. and posting quality, not just bullshit, to their board and racking up big numbers. I didn't care, it was a publically offered contest and I played within the rules.

The rules further offer a $500 prize for the month's longest thread, and a $2000 prize for year's longest. Another member and I decided to make a run at the month with mostly idle chat in our own thread. We had to overtake another thread created by one of the friends of the PBucks team where he was offering 10 cents per post to the top 10 posters to his thread.. clever, but sorta like the kid in 2nd grade who would let you borrow his toys as long as you were his friend.

At any rate, this other member and I surpassed that long thread several times over mid-way through the month at which point we were accused of cheating, ie being the same person. Our logged IPs proved otherwise and we also provided photographical/regional evidence that we were seperate.

Then there came a time when people continued to complain about newcommers racking up big numbers and both the longest thread that we had made and the 10cent offer thread were closed, but not deleted. Change in the rules #1. So, the guy I was "working" with and I created a no-bullshit 100% industry chat thread and by the end of the month it was the 3rd longest (our bullshit one being longest, the 10cent offer thread being 2nd longest).

Now, when it came down to the end of the contest, the PBucks crew decided to change the rules again, and through two series of changes (#2 and #3) wound up with a vote as to who should win, the industry thread or the 10cent thread.. mind you, the 10cent thread had been closed and was 2nd longest, while the other bullshit thread had been closed and was 1st longest, but wasn't in contention to win the monthly prize.. seem strange? I thought so.

Then came rule change #4, where the prize was to be split between the two, which the originators of the two threads agreed upon. It is my understanding that the guy I was working with was finally paid the full amount anyway.

In the course of this, I made a huge stink about how the PBucks crew was not prepared to act fairly and appropriately in a public forum, they were not prepared for public participation, they expected it to only be their circle of mostly Canadian friends. Regardless, I was banned when I admittedly insulted on top of pointing out the incredible injustices and two-faced dealings on behalf of both the PB members and program and in turn was not paid for my 2000 posts nor was I given a tshirt which was offered for the first 100 posts, all of which occurred before I was banned.

Whether I should have been paid or not.. well there are different perspectives. I didn't cheat and I wasn't at all abusive (tame compared to GFY), and the posting I had done was all prior to the differences of opinion.. if it took PBucks less than 5 weeks to send out checks I probably would have been paid, I waited long enough.

Then again, some say it's like a sponsor program where if you are caught cheating you get dropped and that's it. I disagree, because in this situation it wasn't an opt-in program, it is a contest, and I was within the written rules of the contest and was not paid accordingly.

The money is small and insignificant, but the principle, I feel, drags out a severe problem in this industry and that's greed and outright lack of accountibility. The PB crew, I feel, should have accepted that they were beat at their own game the first month and could have tweaked the rules for the following month's contest and there would have been no protest, but when the rules of the game are changed 4 times while the game is being played, and changed on the last day of the contest, well it puts a real bad taste in my mouth.

Flame me as you wish. ;)

booker 09-04-2002 10:30 PM

Heh.. well I figger'd I've been out of action here for a few days, come back and put in some of that good work. heh

On top of that I'm happy, one site I've been developing with two other people is starting to pick up!

Morgan 09-04-2002 10:30 PM

Ya, thats lame. Im sure that program will have lots of fucked up shit happening! Personally, I dont post/read posts at any other board. Too time consuming.

Lensman - you should introduce a rewards program where each post is worth one reward point and you can cash in however many of your post points for prizes. Of course you would have to reset peoples postometers first!!!

For example:
Sony TV - 8,000 post points
playstation - 4,000 post points
etc...

booker 09-04-2002 10:38 PM

Ganj.. the problem with putting prizes in for posting is that people start to spam and type "lol" and whatever else 1000 times, and the others complain, etc etc and it is just a big mess.

That 10cent offer thread that I mentioned, people would type "dime me" "dime me again" etc 50 times a night, and it's just bullshit, there's no reason to incite that here.

Likewise, that bullshit thread that the other guy and I started was 80% the two of us having idle conversation, the thread was "Babes Beer & Politics." We'd talk about our daily activities, food, women, beer, politics, anything that two people would talk about over AIM or ICQ or irc. We felt it was fair because 1) the rules say "get paid to chat" and 2) it was not only open to everyone but we had some very level headed fact-based chats about politics and economics and world events, which anyone could have joined in on but no one did.

Like I said, greed is a big stumbling block in this and many other industries, I feel.. it seems like, from a newcommer's stance, that is you help others in this industry, it will be returned to you 2-fold.. with some people. I've been fortunate to meet and chat with a good handful of people whose thought process and perspective have really impressed me. I am not a porn lord by trade, as it happens, I am an electrical engineer, and engineering is a field where teamwork and project management is ultimately more important than crunching numbers. That applies across the board.

Morgan 09-04-2002 10:43 PM

Good Point.

TheFLY 09-04-2002 11:29 PM

dude you just have a monthly poll or some kind of secret scoring algorithm... like count the number of adverbs or something wierd like that... then all the people that post replies that are just "INDEED" or "MY NUTS ITCH" -- they don't get as many points...

TheFLY 09-04-2002 11:34 PM
