Facebook - fad or...?

WTF is the fascination with Facebook these days?

Were stalkers running out of online resources to track people down?

IllTestYourGirls 07-20-2007 08:35 PM

I have no idea. My guess is people want to feel hip, or want to be heard and seen.

Bro Media - BANNED FOR LIFE 07-20-2007 09:15 PM

i picked up hotties on there!

aico 07-20-2007 09:17 PM

it's been around for quite some time, and I think most people are sick of all the spam on MySpace.

GatorB 07-20-2007 09:20 PM

I like the way when you go on there and if you click the link to see if your friends have a facebook account it asks for your e-mail and your e-mail password. WTF??????

jakethedog 07-20-2007 09:25 PM

I was told facebook exceeded GOOGLE in traffic last week .. its all about their excellent FREE add-ons and simplicity .. and it is more "real" than myspace and the rest because people want to connect with friends so they are actually using their real names .. read somewhere else that sites like face book are probably going to be what the "new" internet will be like .. hmmm

pornask 07-20-2007 09:25 PM

me = proud to have never been member of facebook ever...

Still don't what it's about. Anysite that asks me to give them my e-mail password is not one I'll be joining anytime soon.

DaddyHalbucks 07-20-2007 09:30 PM

The owner turned down $1 billion.

If that's a modern fad, count me in.

born4porn 07-20-2007 09:34 PM

I think it is a commercial reality and a pioneer in online social networking ... it took it too another level! :pimp

Facebook isn't a fad -- it's a well-designed networking tool organized by region, school and even workplace.

Plus, a recent Forbes article claimed that Facebook members are more intelligent that MySpace users. d:winkwink: It was originally created and launched as a network for Harvard students.

Casa Nova 07-21-2007 12:11 AM

I find it to be a great site to connect with old friends from school, some even preschool. It's just interesting to see what they are up to & meeet up for a coffee etc.

Also starting a group is a great way to promote a site, company, charity etc.

teg0 07-21-2007 12:27 AM

try are trying to flex their muscle, but myspace and faebook are fads. In the 2020s people be looking back and say "hey... remember myspace?" "oh god! I had myspace profile. the 2000s rocked."

Violetta 07-21-2007 03:33 AM

Everyone I know are using it...

nico-t 07-21-2007 04:17 AM

i dont know anyone thats using it...

and personally those community type of sites never did anything for me... its like this tool for attention whores plastering theirselfs over the internet... no thank you

georgeyw 07-21-2007 04:33 AM

I'm just waiting for facebook to go the way of myspace and become spam central.

Am not a fan of either of these sites but commend the creators on their successes.

StuartD 07-21-2007 04:51 AM

People are using it to find people that they haven't talked to in 10 and 20+ years.

It's reuniting people no matter where in the world they are, or what has happened to them through out the years that they've been apart.

That's very powerful and people are loving it.

RayBonga 07-21-2007 05:30 AM

They are being sued, right?

geirlur 07-21-2007 07:19 AM

There's articles about facebook in Norway's biggest newspapers every day, getting pretty tired of it... the articles that is

That's the way I tend to think of it also. I'm sure many people - at one time or another, stop and wonder "Hmm...I wonder what ever happened to...?"

Hardcore drinkers can likely testify to those late nights after you've had a few too many, end up reminiscing a little in your beer...and wind up on the phone trying to track down a long-lost buddy or ex-GF.

Perhaps Facebook helps fill that little void.

sniperwolf 07-21-2007 08:12 AM

i have no idea...:pimp

Facebook is FANTASTIC!! I use it prob 10x a day.

I have re-united with so many high school and college friends thru this site. I have no reason to ever attend a high school reunion because I can just message them and say hello anytime I want hehe.

I admit I am a bit of a raving fan, but I find it amazing. If they ever went public i would be the first person buying stock.

Facebook has "fad" written all over it until they started to open it up ad encourage non-university / college types of participate. Now it is becoming more and more of a find old friends and self sorting database of people.

If your friends on there post tons of pictures, it is also a pretty decent stalking tool.

Pipecrew 07-21-2007 09:52 AM

they have too many useless apps, people were attracted due to simplicity and the way to meet and reunite, now they are bogging it down with useless garbage. KISS - keep it simple stupid

ztik 07-21-2007 10:07 AM

Ive never met anyone who said they use it. I personally havn't either

I agree, FaceBook is a great networking tool, pages load fast, not tons of ads and just a clean forum to connect with friends and family

And some of the apps tend to crash opera browser, too.

teg0 07-21-2007 01:16 PM

turning into myspace so slowly that nobody notices.

Yeah I'm sure mypace was ad-free at first too. If some site gets enough traffic, spammers will exploit it.

Also as I said I question facebook's practices. Any site that requests my e-mail password gets a HUGE red flag from me.

Iron Fist 07-21-2007 02:01 PM

Just signed up, and spammed my friends. Lets see if they are still my friends now :)
