1st annual AquaFire Night! [PICS]
Takin' a break from the usual earlier this evening, the wife and I walked down our street to check out AquaFire Night - the first event of its kind set up along the old historic Welland Canal.
The city floated hundreds of bonfires in the canal, and brought in a large orchestra to play classical music on a floating bandshell. And around town buskers entertained the crowds with acts of fire. Grabbed a bunch of shots as the sun set on a beautiful, warm night... http://www.fetishopolis.com/kap-images/skkap706.jpg http://www.fetishopolis.com/kap-images/skkap707.jpg http://www.fetishopolis.com/kap-images/skkap708.jpg http://www.fetishopolis.com/kap-images/skkap709.jpg |

One aspect that sorta' cracked me up last night, though. The community event was intended to be for 'everyone' - yet they charged $80 for grandstand seating.
In a town completely decimated by a near-total loss of industry and good-paying jobs in recent years...I had to wonder where 'everyone' came up with $80 to sit in prime seats. It was an excellent idea - but not fully thought out by city council. |
