What do you want from a RSS feed?
When you go out looking for a RSS feed to put on your blogs what is is that you really want to see from a sponsor's feed? Text heavy? Certain layout? Actually gets updated now and then?
|
Updated is nice... Way too many of them out there that do not update anymore...

Do rss feeds produce traffic? Do surfers subscribe to rss feeds?
|
I've decided to bump this thread, and not with just a usual "bump", but with a link to a small video from Metallica's show in Moscow: https://youtube.com/watch?v=cF1H5IlxVsU&NR=1 - guys, sorry for the offtopic, but we REALLY LOVE that band here! :GFYBand

A couple of things: First, the generic term "RSS feeds" is like saying "website". What do I want in a website? That is pretty general. You need to define up front what type of feed it is: Feed of galleries for gallery style sites, feed with images and words for blogs, or feeds specifically aimed at the surfers to subscribe to.
Once you decide which one(s) you are planning to do, then you can work to define each one properly. My personal peeve on RSS feeds is feeds that either don't validate, or are missing tags in the headers that make them useless. As an example, there is an update time and date that needs to be in the header of a feed otherwise most aggregation software will ignore the updates. if you are making feeds for blogs, get a copy of feedwordpress and autoblogger pro and make sure you feeds work day in and day out with these products. Set up your own systems and capture and process your feeds daily. Make sure the stuff works and can be read properly. All the updates in the world don't help if the feed isn't formated properly and is ignored by the software (Right Bumblecash?) |
Thanks for pointing that out, long since fixed :thumbsup

I have been looking at a bunch of them today before and after posting this. I do a lot of hand-written blogs and the main thing I have noticed is how many feeds don't even have any real text at all. All I can say to that is - boo hiss!
|
I like RSS Feeds that update as much as possible, also have a lot of text for seo keywords to pick up, and then a pictures linked to a gallery (or more than one picture)
I hate feeds that have a pic and are like "Jaime looks so hot she is so horny" and thats each post looks like. I hate that, so boring. |

I agree also... I like if they are updated a couple times a week but once a week with a decent update would work. |
