ServerGenius 07-19-2007 09:18 AM

actually it only happens very shortly to only a few people that got sent to
that sever/node in the cluster. Coz the second the loadbalancer that's in front
of that particular cluster will it stops relaying traffic to that node.

Each webserver cluster is again part of yet another cluster of clusters that
are spread all over the world. When a surfer goes to YouTube the yes again
a cluster of DNS servers determine the fastest (not always shortest) route
to the surfer it's ip address Based on that result the dns cluster returns to
the surfer's browser the ip address of the loadbalance cluster which then
relay the request to a server node in the webserver cluster.

each link in the chain is built up in a cluster grid monitoring eachothers status,
load, response time and speed. All requests are being relayed everytime to
the most efficient node at that time.

I have no clue why I'm explaining this here I guess I'm bored or should I say board?

SmokeyTheBear 07-19-2007 09:44 AM

they announced last night they would be doing some upgrades

posh rat in hell 07-20-2007 06:58 AM

Scott McD 07-20-2007 07:20 AM

Actually, you were right all the way up until you said "all over the world". YouTube is actually hosted at Server Beach in Austin, TX. Check the sig! It's the same place that I host VideoSlacker.com .

Actually, they might. They've been bouncing checks. Sheesh!

They only have 4 clusters with serverbeach :winkwink:
http://searchdns.netcraft.com/?restr...sition=limited

The reason you don't see more than 31 clusters is because of their distribution
network only returns clusters within the same region as where the request
comes from in this case the USA.

:thumbsup

Sorry people, I was uploading too much stuff earlier, I'll throttle it back a bit.

teg0 07-20-2007 07:42 PM

kind of surprised they are using apache. Thats cool though. A lot of huge sites, with a lot of traffic, are moving away from it.

aico 07-20-2007 07:42 PM

Looks like they are trying to shave affiliates.

Miguel T 07-20-2007 08:24 PM

Wicked... lol :1orglaugh
