While in college, as a Sociology and History major, I took a few documentary filmmaking classes, mostly filming oral history films (not adult style oral, LOL).
Honestly, I prefer shooting video over still photography, and have taken to hiring freelance photographers that are better than me at that to shoot stills for my sites over the past several months...most of it is just starting to surface on my sites (I could post updates for three years with the content I have shot but not posted yet).
If anyone thinks there is no money shooting porn, there is even less shooting music vids unless you get MTV style gigs (although I've always said, the only business dirtier than porn is the music biz - talking about major screw-overs).
I actually shoot a fair amount of band stuff for friends since I am a guitartist and played in local bands for years, plus I went to college with guys that now own some of the largest local nightclubs. With that said, it's more for fun than $$$ (also I get to hear/see the songs/performances in advance, plus shoot multiple takes - everything I shot in Vegas was on the fly and feeling high...lots of Long Beach Ice Teas going on). :drinkup
I also shoot short industrial films (not industrial music) for large mainstream corporations, although that is usually with three cameras, tripods, jibs, and scripts. Pretty boring technical/talking head stuff, but it pays good.
Shooting porn videos is a lot of fun and profitable, but it is also hard work. After departing from the X-Biz show last week, I stopped off for a few days in LA and shot nearly two dozen new scenes (from 10am until 2am last Saturday-Sunday).
I had some excellent freelancers working with me (including a few GFYers), so I am pretty sure the content turned out nice... :)
I enjoy the relative freedom of working (and the money) in adult. It's a bonus that I get to meet and hang with some really cool people - I had dinner with Eric and Sunny (and a huge entourage of their friends) on Tuesday night in Las Vegas. Good times at the Hofbrau...
Anyway, it was a pleasure shooting you and your band. You guys looked like you were having fun (not just going through the motions as bands and porn performers sometimes do), and it really showed.
Too bad that YouTube compresses the hell out of videos...if you want to post the direct link to the higher res videos currently on my site, feel free (I'll keep them up for a week). If you want to download and host them on your site after that, that's cool too.
