When that happens you just tell someone who you know will never talk to the person that the secret is about. It's not as fulfilling but it's something!

Sometimes the reason you want to share a secret is because misery loves company.

Misery does, indeed, love company but it is hard to think another, if not directly involved, will be so touched by your problems as to feel the same degree of misery you, yourself, feel. The most you can hope for is "I understand" or " I feel for you" or some relatively sound advice that you will or won't follow. It's your misery, after all, and we all have our sense of self-preservation, even at mental level. If that sharing provides any comfort, by all means, do it; it does not to me and I've learned a long time ago not to burden others with something they might not even comprehend.
But all this pseudo-philosophy is making me thirsty and I need some alcohol.
