I just made the best Omelet .. Recipe inside and share yours

it was so good i just had to share ..

Here's what was in it if you want to recreate ..

4 egg whites
spinach
red peppers
tomatoes
onions
Lump Crab meat ** a big key for me. I buy a ton of this stuff.
topped with Feta cheese

it was about 8 inches around and an inch thick .. it made a nice after the gym lunch :thumbsup

everyday I eat oatmeal before the gym (about 9am) and then a big egg white omelet after (about 11am). I can only mix so many things into an omelet so if you have a favorite combo post it. I need ideas .:thumbsup

jakethedog 07-18-2007 09:58 AM

Yum that sounds sooo good!:)

CuriousToyBoy 07-18-2007 10:00 AM

Mate, I should move in to avoid wastage !!!

Do the same mix for me WITH the egg yolks and THEN you talkin' bro !

;-)

Sounds nutritious and delicious. I like making my omelets with egg whites, artichoke, garlic, spinach, and sliced red potatoes. Oh and a little bit of Italian seasoning with fresh basil.

Brother Bilo 07-18-2007 10:05 AM

I use 2 whole eggs and 2 egg whites, spinach, garlic, sauteed onions, roasted red peppers, and ham. I usually through some red pepper flakes and parsley on it too, if I have them.

Unfortunately, I suck big time at making omelets, so this usually ends up as a scrambled egg bonanza.

BV 07-18-2007 10:05 AM

A trick I learned from my grandma is to put a splash of water into the eggs as your whipping them up, makes them very very fluffy.

MattO 07-18-2007 10:08 AM

I add a touch of milk and whip the living fuck out of the eggs, froth is good.

Also take them off the heat before they're fully done, the heat they've got will cook them after you plate them. If you leave em on the heat till their solid you'll end up with rubbery eggs.

fuzebox 07-18-2007 10:45 AM

I like grilling some chicken first, and putting the pieces in the omelet along with some salsa , avocado, and cheddar cheese. Now that's protein :winkwink:

MikeVega 07-18-2007 11:42 AM

some of these recipes are making me want to make another .. I'll be watching this thread and printing a few out

BAKO 07-18-2007 12:45 PM

sounds yummy

Azlord 07-18-2007 02:35 PM

Top it with a lil bit of cottage cheese. Lots of protein, good stuff.

NetCashJoe 07-18-2007 02:38 PM

I'm always looking for a good omelet! Thanks Mike. :pimp

BV 07-18-2007 04:09 PM

also, FYI: i cook mine on low heat with a lid on the pan, seems to contain the heat without a chance of burning, nothing worse than a burnt omelet....

I love cottage cheese in my omelet. But I usually put inside with the other ingredients.
Also a few spoonfuls of sour cream is a nice addition along with some muenster or yellow american cheese. For veggies I like freshly diced tomatoes, chopped green peppers and onion and always mushrooms.

Brother Bilo 07-18-2007 04:53 PM

I haven't done it before, but I think bean sprouts would be good inside an omelet, might have to try that.

Doctor Dre 07-18-2007 04:55 PM

Sounds good, just get rid of the feta cheeze after the gym ;)

ICEDOG 07-18-2007 04:56 PM

you make me hungry

Profits of Doom 07-18-2007 04:59 PM

Damn, I used to go to a place that made the best chicken, spinach, and feta cheese omelets. The one with the artichoke and sliced red potatoes also sounds really good...

I believe there is a fancy name for your scrambled egg bonanza...my favorite is Mushroom, Tomato, Basil Frittata!

recipe can be found here . The site (http://whfoods.org/index.html) has some really good healthy recipes and cooking tips. :)

Brother Bilo 07-18-2007 05:06 PM

sometimes you have to spice it up a bit. I put so little that it has no effect on my diet . I don't diet really hard anyway. I just cut out a lot of the junk and lowered my carb count. in the past 3 months I started going to the gym 3-4 days a week and small diet changes. I dropped from 218lb to 192lb. and I'm looking at about a 5-8lb swing in muscle weight . I'm happy with it. I feel a hell of a lot better.

MediaGuy 07-18-2007 07:44 PM

I fold mine over.

3 large or 4 medium eggs.
Salt
fresh ground pepper
cumin (i use too much for most people)
butter
onions, chopped fine
medium cheddar or ementhal cheese (grated or thin slices)
shitake mushrooms. finely chopped
a little love

Beat the eggs together (YES with the yolks, fuck cholesteral - drink some beer at lunch)

Add the salt and ground pepper to the eggs

heat a round pan to medium, butter it and just when the thin layer starts to bubble pour in the mixed egg - but keep about a third or a quarter on the side

as the mix starts to cook, while it's still liquid on the upside, sprinkle the cumin then flip the sucker

along the center of the egg, spread the onion (you can fry it ahead in the butter if you like, just add a little more butter then hold the onion in a so it drips into a cloth or napkin), and mushrooms and *just* cover with the grated cheddar or ementhal strips

fold the sucker over

then baste the edges with the reserved egg mix so they seal, flip a few times to avoid the omelette getting crusty (unless you like that) and let the inside cook...

once all the egg is cooked and firm take it out, and let it sit on a plate whie it steams/cooks inside... then eat it lol

I have to admit, after the gym we sometimes go to this resturant that makes the most Unbelievable omlete.

Bacon, cheese, mushrooms, chicken, spinach, tomatoe and capsicum.

I never order an omlete anywhere else or attempt to make at home because I know it won't taste them same.

I am chauncy 07-18-2007 08:05 PM

3 eggs in splash of milk red and green peppers, onion, hoffman super sharp chedder, Hot Cappicola and Prosciutto

annomoterrace 07-18-2007 08:13 PM

Why do you only use egg whites?

Do you avoid the yolks for a bit of health or taste?

I effin love omelets!

They all sound great but I just jizzed reading "I am chauncy's" post. YA!

jonesy 07-18-2007 08:50 PM

i throw big chucks of bacon and sausage in mine, sometimes steak too, hot sauce. :1orglaugh

BigB 07-18-2007 09:09 PM

Add just a touch of Vanilla and milk to the eggs whilst whippin em
with a wisk.... oh yeah.. add one yolk...

Sea salt and fresh ground black and white pepper....

Sprig of Cilantro....
and we are talkin SERIOUS EATS Big B style...

Big B

tony286 07-18-2007 09:10 PM

Yeah I had to make some diet changes or they wanted to put me on Meds. my cholesterol was 290 and i was 218lb. in 3 months i got that down to 138 and 192lbs. I just cut out whatever i can without going crazy. you know like butter and shit like that.

Crab Meat's great so long as it's not that "imitation" stuff.

I can't stand anything with that mixture of processed fish in it.... california rolls included.

I 100% agree .. My buddy owns a restaurant and he gives me these big ass cans of Jumbo Lump Crab meat .. the chunks are like an inch in size. I even put them in a fresh salad from time to time instead of grilled chicken. I love Crab Meat

Deej 07-18-2007 10:00 PM

i crave a simple cheese and green chili omellette sometimes... Or chili verde ( same thing really)

can be very good with the right cheese mix and good chilis

Varius 07-19-2007 01:23 AM

2 cups Scramblers egg substitute = 280 calories (16G carbs, 64G protein, 0G fat)
2 soy hot dog weiners (sliced up)
lots of sliced jalapenos
lots of Frank's red hot sauce
little bit of white distilled vinegar
ground black pepper

Protein packed, healthy and spicy enough to knock out hangovers :thumbsup
