To Beg The Surfer Or Not To Beg The Surfer, that is the question...

im sure you have all seen those little ads, or maybe even put one up on your own site...you know, the ones that say "dear surfer, click here so I can pay my bandwidth, or else my site may go down and no more free porn for you"

Yes, begging is quite rampant on the pages of adult sites...The most notable is right there on the most visited adult site on the net, the hun, stating something to the extent of "please click my banners as they keep this site free"

so now the question is, do you think advertising in such a manner works better then other methods? There would be 2 train of thoughts here....

1. The surfer, upon seeing such a ad, would be more inclined to click on a banner if he likes your site and understands that advertising is what keeps the internet free and going

2. The surfer, upon seeing such a ad, would be less inclined to click on a banner, simply because he doesnt like to be told what to do. It goes back to the whole childhood mentality of a parent saying do this, and the kid doing the exact opposite simply for the sake of rebeling.

so which is it? Should we beg, or not?

I have tried that method, but found its better to establish trust rather than pitty.

With pitty they will click but not pay for anything.

With trust they click and pay willingly.

:2 cents:

i think it works both ways, if the surfer is a bookmarker who enjoys your site, they might click daily. if the person is new, they will just overlook it.

yes, that would be my assumption also
but if both of our assumptions are correct, the obvious question would be which of the two methods gets the edge? will the number of people overlooking it outnumber the number who of sympathizers who will click?
