The pitfalls all depend on what you intend to do :)

the biggest pitfall IMO is people trying to do this part time or blowing a bunch of money with expectations of making profit.

The truth is unless you know what you're doing, you won't make much money for the first few months. Once you learn the biz, there's a lot of cash to be made.

Avoid anything that is illegal :)

Start with a small project like a blog and focus on learning about traffic and how to generate it

Good luck, but remember there is no easy money to be made in the Xbiz anymore

I am really in the beginning stages. I will be working this full time and hopefully it will pay off. I dont have a site yet, however, I am looking into developing one...any suggestions? I would like to focus on asian material, but welcome others.

Based on the recommendations of others, start with something that you like. Asian, for example. Build from there.

I've been studying/researching this for about a year now...I would have started sooner, but life kept getting in the way.

try not to be a sheep, but be safe.

and a good rule of thumb is that if it is harder to make money at something today than it was yesterday, it is probable that it will be even harder tomorrow

Avoid huge expectations and promises of big fast money.. however as justFred said, there are lots to be made, it just requires some knowledge.

you should first decide what exactly would you be good at, and what would you like to stick with e.g. Free Sites, galleries, blogs, doing TGP, Link List, or something else...
