Once you get used to the extra space you'll never look back. I have a hard time using less than a 2 monitors setup now.

Yeah, you should be able to get cards you can slot in to run up to 4

I'm also on a 1680x1050 LCD but keep browser windows at ~1100x800, no point in wasting all the desktop realestate on just one app.
