Just adopted a Katrina dog

On Thursday we adopted a sweet 3 yr. old Border Collie mix. She was rescued from Mississippi during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. She has been living on a ranch in Orange County, in a dog performance house for the last 2 yrs. Her rescuer is a dog trainer with 11 dogs currently housed.

She's earned her Canine Good Citizen certification, along with some herding certifications. She's also earned the title FM (Flyball Master) in the dog performance sport, Flyball.

She came with the name/title "Lucca the Brave." We want her to adjust comfortably so we're going to keep the name Lucca (nicknames so far: Lucky Lucca and Lucca Bear). She seems to like us, so we're all stoked:)

Awe dude it's been awesome! She walks over to the back door and gently paws at it when she has to go outside. When we go to take her for a walk, she finds her leash, picks it up and brings it to us. That may get a little demanding and old one day, but it's pretty fucking cute:)

You lose the karma when you brag about your good deeds for an ego boost.

We didn't get the dog for good karma, we got her because we wanted a dog.

Do you think talking shit results in good karma?

I think politely helping other people understand karma results in good karma.

Awesome. Rescue dogs are the best. It's a shame more people don't pick up rescued or sheleter dogs. Good on you.

eroswebmaster 07-15-2007 09:47 AM

You can tell by her eyes she's a sweet dog...one of the sweetest dogs we have is one we rescued from the streets.

Congrats, that is a very nice thing to do.

and what a cutie pie! :) (not munki the dog, just wanted to clarify) :winkwink:

Elli 07-16-2007 01:50 PM

It sounds like a perfect match for you all! That's great that she ended up at a trainer's for so long. That would be a great program if more rescue dogs could be trained and properly socialized like that before ending up as pets again.

ztik 07-16-2007 01:57 PM

Damn you need to give her a bath.

Resuced dogs are the way to go. Have 2 greyhounds myself. The male went to some prison training camp thing and he's perfectly behaved and came house trained. The girl lived in a kennel for all 3 years of her life(with no exercise) so she's still adapting to being able to move around the house and outside.

Cute dog though
