Returning Home To A Dead Pet

Suxs Ass (and not in the fun way).

I got home last night from a long weekend to find Mr. Canoli, aka 'Big Guy', senior member of my Anole gang has been sent to the Big House in the sky. He follows his life long lady Mrs. Canoli who passed a few months back, and they are survived by her brother Mimo 'The Anole' Canoli, now in charge of the familia way.

La pace è con voi fratello.

LukieD 09-03-2002 02:35 PM

What type of animal was it?

Fro 09-03-2002 02:35 PM

My heart goes out to you.

farbie 09-03-2002 02:37 PM

Condolences on losing a pet, to me they are family.

kmanrox 09-03-2002 02:45 PM

i 'killed the kitten' twice today if it's any consolation ?

=-/

Cheshire 09-03-2002 02:49 PM

thanks kman ~ that makes me feel a little better...

Steve 09-03-2002 02:52 PM

Even worse is when you come home and one pet has eaten another. I used to have 4 bearded dragons. It got down to one prety quick. Nasty bastards.

Always buy healthy, adult lizards.

Cheshire 09-03-2002 02:55 PM

oh ouch!

Mimo set down the law one night and put out one of Big Guy's eyes, but eating the other one? That's harsh.

I have a bearded dragon. He's 4 years old now. I am afraid I have spoiled him too much as he prefers to be hand-fed now and only wnats the gormet bearded dragon food. We also have an iguana who is seven. Sometimes well put them next to each other and half the time they get along and the other half, they aren't so happy :)

SleazyDream 09-03-2002 03:31 PM

sorry to hear, they look cute

i used to breed beardies... once i had a 7 week old in with a bunch of 2 week old beardies. i just happened to be watching while the bigger one grabbed a small one by the head and started shaking... i stopped him in time and ended up selling all the babies as well as the adults.

I had purchased all 4 at once, and they were all roughly the same size (had come from the same brood). Well, you know how it goes, the most aggressive ones get the lions share of food. I lost one little guy to reasons unkown, and two more were lost two mauling/predation from the largest.(always happened when we went out for dinner in town) He was big, and slow, but dangerous. So we named him John Wayne.

If I could have done it over, I would have bought two mature adults. They would already be weaned on a mixture of greans, pellets, and live food. And they would have gotten past the perils of youth. Those suckers can be pretty damn hardy when they become mature. Rather plump, and somewhat cuddly - if they have been handled frequently as they grow older. (John Wayne has always been very aggressive, though). I have heard that mature females can have problems if they don't breed - so I guess mature males are the safe way to go.

Thats a shame Cheshire! I'd send you our cat to make up for it, but you'd just send him back with your medical bills from where he tore you apart. :) Lizards are neat to watch.

As for YOU, get back to work! :1orglaugh

gothweb 09-03-2002 08:15 PM

Sorry, Cheshire.

:( I had anoles with I was a kid. However, any terrarium/aquarium/cage animal I ever had died fantastically quickly. I kill plants, even. Somehow, my cats have always survived, though... Lucky thing.

Ah, no sorry.
He probably passed on Saturday, although it's difficult to say as he was directly under the heat lamp that's on a timer to be on several hours of the day. By the time I found him his the orbs of his eyes had sunken to the point of appearing completely hollow and empty, and his skeletal system was clearly visible through his thin layer of dehydrated skin.
Any meat would have been useless Pornopete. But hell if that wasn't good for a laugh, huh? :1orglaugh

Nope. I get the urge to spank it everyday...sometimes twice a day...and I'm not a bad person at all.

Kris, can you post some photos? I think it would be funny to watch you breeding with some bearded dragons.

Cheshire, don't get a cat. My cat is responsible for killing every animal we have ever had in the house, including and especially lizards. There isn't a rodent (mouse, rat, rabbit, etc.), bird, or any other living creature within a mile radius of my house. She leaves them on the doorstep as presents for me.

That is the biggest and best laugh I've had in AGES!!! What a fabulous pic. You can almost imagine that going through his little kitten brain. Brilliant!:thumbsup

Stealthy 09-05-2002 05:06 PM

Cheshire, that sucks...

Please give my regards to the remaining Canole falmilia, I'll send a nice wreath of crickets...

I had an iguana named Merlin and my roommate had a cat named Confucious.

Merlin was fast, Confucious was faster...

It sucks to lose a pet...

But ya know darlin' there's always a bright light at the end of the proverbial tunnel, as long as you've got THE D

(John Kricfalusi is a GOD.)

Bummer Chesh. Very much a bummer.

You can come pet my dog anytime you want though. :D

platy fry?

dig420 09-06-2002 02:45 AM

my cats Sly, Muffin and Spooky want to meet the entire Canole family...

I don't like animals that eat each other, it's nasty. At least cats and dogs won't eat each other unless they're dying of starvation lol

I had a couple hamsters once and one of them got caught by one of the cats and apparently had his spine severed or something so he couldn't feel pain in his rear portions. I found a couple of the other hamsters eating his back legs while the hurt hamster was eating food from the bowl in front heh... at that point I just wanted to feed them all to the cats. Now I have a roommate who has two bigass snakes, and I'm debating matching them up against Buster the over friendly pit bull in a fight to the finish.

I'm not big on snakes and I'm not sure Sly could take them, but I bet Buster could :)

titmowse 09-06-2002 05:53 AM

"platy fry?"

heehee. not YOU silly. platy fry are baby platies, a very prolific freshwater tropical fishie.
