private Whois - Whois proxies etc

Just looking for some thoughts from some of you about the private Whois information options that are out there when buying domains.

the pros are obvious, any cons that you can think of?

do you use them?

Yep i use them every time.. I dont want somebody to do a google on my name and to find out what sites I own ,what I do ... Thats my :pimp business and should remain like this ..

Cons .... Hmm .. If is a paysite members may think if you hide your ID you try to SCAM them .. but is just a supposition I've never checked whois before paying to a porn site... Too much enjoying content waiting to be seen than hassle with whois ..:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

One con of a private domain registration is that the domain registrar registers the domain in its name so technically (I think) this would make it the owner. That said, most companies agree to let their customer control the domain completely anyway, but if you are going with a lesser known registrar you may want to examine their TOS first.

The only con I can think of is that it costs a little more. The anonymity is well worth the extra four or five dollars, though.

The con is that if the company acting as your proxy goes out of business youre gonna have a major headache aka registerfly.

FYI - Although it will protect you against people finding your name via whois, if someone decides to sue you the proxy will give up your information.

Con: I discovered that a simple hand written letter to the registrar can result in getting the real whois really easy.
