Some snaps from my American roadtrip (pics)
I finally got around to taking the pictures from my vacation off of my camera. So, I thought I would show everybody how I am not really a photographer and throw a few of them up to share.
So, we after flying into Philly my partner and I joined my parents in a mini van and drove up to the Boston area where we went to one of my favourite places on the planet. It is a place called Rockport on Cape Anne, Mass. I love Cape Anne in general but when you were on the busy city streets less than 48 hours before a view like this one is particularly refreshing: http://www.sjayne.com/boardpics/trip/rockport_kyaks.jpg Then the next day we went whale watching and left from my favourite Cape Anne town called Gloucester (it is the place where the boat featured in the book and film A Perfect Storm went out from). I have been on many whale watches growing up and this one wasn't the best as far as the number of whales but it was still great. One of the best bits was that this whale in this picture is one called Trident and she is so old that when I went on my first watch 16 years ago she was one of the whales we saw on that trip too: http://www.sjayne.com/boardpics/trip/whale.jpg Then we had to make a trip to geek Mecca. I went to university in Boston so it wasn't such a big deal for me but I had a major geek (said in a nice way) with me who insisted that if we were near Boston he had to go to Cambridge and see MIT. So, the MIT dome: http://www.sjayne.com/boardpics/trip/mit_dome.jpg This is a building on the MIT campus that I thought was especially cool: http://www.sjayne.com/boardpics/trip/mit_building.jpg Then we got back in the van and drove to Niagara Falls. We did the Maid of the Mist like the people in this pic: http://www.sjayne.com/boardpics/trip/falls_boat.jpg Then we did the thing where you can walk behind the falls and got even more wet: http://www.sjayne.com/boardpics/trip/falls_mist.jpg Whenever I go to the Falls I enjoy standing at the bit where the water goes over. I love the contrast between the calm and then the sudden chaos: http://www.sjayne.com/boardpics/trip/falls_top.jpg Then on the morning we left we voyaged into the less than glossy part of the the Canadian side of the falls and went to the UFO diner. My love of absurd meant that once I saw it I had to go to it: http://www.sjayne.com/boardpics/trip/flying_saucer.jpg Then we drove to Cleveland, Ohio to go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I could start a whole thread on the issues I had with their selections and people that should be there but aren't but I still enjoyed it. I was happy there was a Clash exhibit on but my head hurt with my mother asking me who they were every time she saw their name. This is a Crocodile Rock guitar outside the museum with the museum in the background: http://www.sjayne.com/boardpics/trip..._roll_fame.jpg Then we drove all day back to the Philly area where I spent a week with my folks at their place. |
Then when I got back to my folks these were my pals that kept me from missing my own puppies:
My "special needs" cat. He wasn't suppose to live through the night when he was born but when I was a teen I decided to nurse him with an eyedrop through every night until he was better. So, he thinks I am 'mommy' and 16 years on he is still alive. He is a bit slow and we are sure has some brain damage but he is a sweetie if he decides he likes you: http://www.sjayne.com/boardpics/trip/jemmi.jpg Then we have the new kids on the block. Starting with my parent's 1 and a half old long hair dachshund: http://www.sjayne.com/boardpics/trip/lilly.jpg And then the dynamic duo that is my sister's puppies. One is a year and a half old tiny mini dachshund and the other in a three month old springer spaniel puppy. I have a spaniel at home so I was loving playing with the puppy: http://www.sjayne.com/boardpics/trip/katie_peanut.jpg Then we flew back to the UK and landed on Monday and I am still not totally over jetlag. |

Nice pics
Sounds like you did a fair amount of driving. Did you take your parents down memory lane with a "Are we almost there yet". |

Nice pics. Makes me pumped for my cross country trip that I'm planning on doing next summer. Rental car with unlimited miles from the East Coast to the west coast with a bunch of stops along the way.

looks like you had a blast! i love road trips so i'm totally jealous. :)
one of my favorite places to go is niagara falls, canada. not only is it absolutely beautiful, but you never run out of things to do once you're done experiencing the falls. :) i have eaten at that ufo diner!! and i loved it! i wasn't expecting the food to be all that good, but i was definitely pleasantly surprised. :) also, i used to live in cleveland. haven't been to the rock n roll hall of fame in YEARS but if you go when they have the right exhibits it's really amazing. for example, the last time i went, they had a jim morrison exhibit in which they displayed lots of his childhood school papers, christmas cards he hand made for his parents, etc. it was quite a treat. :) |
Great shots Sarah.

I get too into the falls to do much in the casinos...when there is something that naturally amazing there I find it hard to be shut up in an artificial environment. When I was at the rock and roll hall of fame they had a Doors exhibit ..I bet it was similar :) I liked the Clash special exhibit they had going on but it was odd that is was the American side of The Clash stuff..which is fair enough but weird when I am use to their UK story. |
Nice pics Sarah ... thanks for sharing! :thumbsup
