New med to quit smoking... who heard of it/tried it?
Im going to quit smoking pretty soon and my doctor prescribed me a 'brand new' medication that just went on the market called CHAMPIX. The program lasts 12 weeks during which you have to take 2 pills a day which are supposed to keep the transmittors in your brain that 'wants' nicotine.
Anyone heard of it or tried it? Im a bit hesitant about these new medications... I tried Zyban years ago; didnt do a thing on me. Any info? |
I know welbutrin works for many, when I was on it I instantly no longer wanted cigs.

I stopped cold turkey 20+ years ago. It's the only thing that works, IMO.

I have a whole box here of Chantix (-1 pill)
Fuck that shit, made me feel too weird and not myself. I don't like shit fucking with my brain chemistry like that. I even started a thread about it, no responses :-( http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...hlight=chantix |
Best medicine to quit smoking is a mirror. Look into it. Either you care about what you see enough to quit, or you don't.

Well, I think the strong will and attitude are more important factors... |

If you're talking about Chantix, it's the new Pfizer drug, and it's supposedly very different than what's out there. My sister is a drug rep for them and has been talking about all the classes she's been attending on it. |
Personally I like the nicorette gum, however I currently still smoke. (i have quit with the gum before though for a few months)
I basically was just addicted to the gum afterwards which I guess is better than the smoke. I could never ween off the gum and somewhere in there I started back smoking. I smoke a pack a day and usually chew the gum late at night when I get tired of going outside to smoke or run out of cigs in the wee hours. Or if you have to be someplace where smoking is not permitted the gum will tide you over. Like on a plane, etc etc... it suffices the oral addiction as well where the patch doesnt do that for me. I'm basically fucked, I have a very addictive personality. Luckily not with illegal drugs or alcohol though. :-) |
The addictive properties of nicotine wear off after a few days.
The real "issue" is the psychological one. And for the *most* part - the people who have trouble quitting are the ones who deep down don't really *want* to quit, for one of a multitude of reasons. |
