Changing your IP address?
I am having an argument with my mom right now. She read somewhere that if you change your LAN card it will give you a new IP. I told her that it won't. Is this possible? If not, what is a good way of changing your IP.

Change your LAN card will not give you a new ip, only new MAC address. The easiest way to change ip address is using a proxy :)
|
That's what I figured. Whats a reliable proxy site?

Your mom ?
|
the easiest for me is to reboot my cable modem and router
|
If you have DSL w/o a static IP, rebooting the dsl modem will give you a new IP.
|
I think it will change your mom, not your IP :2 cents:

if i turn off my cable modem the ip addr goes back into the pool for someone else to take. since no one ever turns off their modems that same ip is still sitting there waiting for me to turn my modem back on :/ |

I know where you're coming from. My Mom is always coming downstairs asking me dumb computer stuff. I'm gonna ask her if she can buy me a new lock for the basement door tomorrow. :Oh crap

changing your router or LAN card on cable service will change your IP address as your MAC address which is binded to the hardware changed. the ISP gives an IP address to a specific MAC and if that doesn't change neither will the IP on cable service unless you have software that spoofs the MAC address. On DSL service it will most likly change every time you connect to the internet. |
