Net Neutrality

How many of you have sent a e-mail in support of net neutrality? It's something that everyone should take the time to send a simple e-mail to the FCC to show your support for net neutrality.

check this site out for more info, and a easy to e-mail forum.. Only 6 days left to get your opinion in, on something that will most defiantly affect us all..

big corporate has deep pockets. the rationale i heard is that big companies need to be able to pay for tiered bandwidth so they can provide video services and more interactive sites using premium bandwidth and small/independents will have to use 2nd/3rd tier bandwidth. 99.99% uptime will not be available to everyone.

it makes perfect sense to anyone not working in the internet industry. unless there's enough people to inform the sheeple then it will just be something we have to deal with. since these companies can't directly control internet traffic with money they will make the traffic expensive to obtain/maintain. if small/independents can't afford to play the game then big corporate has less little people to worry about.

bullshit i say.

crockett 07-09-2007 08:09 PM

I know, it's nothing but a power grab powered by big cooperate greed and money hungry politicians. You would think more people in this industry would give a shit being so many deal with high bandwidth sites.

Guess no one cares about their future on the net..

The nation's largest telephone and cable companies ? including AT&T, Verizon, Comcast and Time Warner ? want to be Internet gatekeepers, deciding which Web sites go fast or slow and which won't load at all.

They want to tax content providers to guarantee speedy delivery of their data. They want to discriminate in favor of their own search engines, Internet phone services, and streaming video ? while slowing down or blocking their competitors.

These companies have a new vision for the Internet. Instead of an even playing field, they want to reserve express lanes for their own content and services ? or those from big corporations that can afford the steep tolls ? and leave the rest of us on a winding dirt road.

The big phone and cable companies are spending hundreds of millions of dollars lobbying Congress and the Federal Communications Commission to gut Net Neutrality, putting the future of the Internet at risk.

Big Corporate's View

Quote:

The user expectation of Internet use has moved from best-effort connectivity to an expectation of reasonable performance & capacity for all types of applications. QoS-sensitive applications like IPTV, gaming, and VoIP could be offered over such a converged IP broadband end-to-end network. Network service providers also would like to support such applications effectively. They need to provision their networks to meet the service level agreements (SLAs). Customer experiences need to be protected and predictable despite network failures and changes in demand as well as application mix.

umm sorry but when was the last time bell telephone company updated anything? They still use analog technologies in most places even still today.

The only reason any of the Bell telephone companies are updating anything, is because VOIP and other phone companies like Verizion have been kicking their asses.

Bell is just one example.. Look at the cable companies and it's the same deal.. Time Warner didn't do shit to upgrade it's cable modem speeds until it started getting competition from comcast and Verizon.

IPTV will come if it becomes profitable for them to do so.. The only reason they want to be able to limit bandwidth is so they can control the B/W to use for their own services. IE.. IPTV and so on.

They don't want to upgrade shit if they don't have to.. Promises of claiming they want to upgrade to give better services is a load of shit.

Basically they are wanting to double dip.. They want to collect money from the end users ie surfers and now they want to collect money from content providers online.. ie us website operators. (sounds a lot like how TV broadcast works now doesn't it? How many people do you that can afford to run their own TV station?

That could very well be the future of the net in 10 years if they are able to take control via B/W limitations. Trust me, there is nothing good for us or the surfer in regards to doing away with net neutrality.

In America much like most other countries.. as long as you have enough money.. well you can make anything legal.

pocketkangaroo 07-09-2007 11:54 PM

The problem with the Telcos argument is that the government gives them money for development and HUGE tax cuts to build out their infrastructure. They sit and put that money in their pockets and don't do anything.

They no longer innovate and they no longer produce new and exciting things. So they decide they'll steal from companies like Google that innovate. Let everyone else do the work and then demand a cut from them. Internet is already one of the most overpriced services in the country (you should see what it really costs them to provide it). They have a monopoly in many areas as well.

As for writing letters, the government doesn't give a shit. They care about money. They would hang you from your toes and gut you alive if they thought it could fill their pockets a little more.

This has been an issue for quite some time.

I sent out several emails several years ago.

Yea but now it's down to 5 days until they decide to keep it or get rid of it. Looks like the lobbying of our great lawmakers and FCC is paying off this time for the telecoms/cable companies.

As there is a very good chance net neutrality will get tossed out for good.
