Number Of Canadians Arrested For Marijuana Has Increased

Thank you, Missteerrrr Steven W. Harper :thumbsup

Quote:

Ottawa, ON (AHN) - In the last couple of years, thousands of Canadians have been charged with an offence that was almost taken off the books. When the Conservative government took office in 2006 they killed a bill to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana. Since then the number of people arrested for smoking pot increased dramatically according to data compiled by the Canadian Press.

Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa and Halifax all reported increases of between 20 and 50 per cent in 2006 from the previous year, while Montreal and Calgary saw their number of arrests dip a few percentage points.

Montreal :thumbsup

Conservative = Preservative = preserve the status quo.

Brad 07-09-2007 11:21 AM

Meanwhile Canada has climbed to the top of the marijuana usage list.

It still doesn't negate the fact that even the Liberals didn't pass the bill when they had the votes available to them.

BTW, I am all for decriminalization. I just find all the hate for Harper funny. Some of you act like he's going to eat your babies or something

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh heh there are thousands of laws that are ignored in both usa and canada. if both countries started enforcing laws that are stupid and don't harm anyone , they wouldnt have the manpower to fight REAL crime..

Maybe its about time americans focus on their own unenforced laws and illegal prisons before pointing the finger across the border .. ( cough cough california ) :winkwink:

you do realise harper has the power to tell the police to focus on real crimes right..

its that simple.. the police work for ME and YOU .. i want them to focus on muderers rapists and the ilk .. a guy smoking pot doesnt hurt me in any way, i dont care about him and don't want to spend MY money driving around a cop in a fancy car to arrest fucking hippies.

MetaMan 07-09-2007 12:31 PM

There are less arrests for it in Calgary because the cops also smoke it here. Most of the time they take it away and puff on the way back to the station.

Doctor Dre 07-09-2007 12:31 PM

Fucking waste of public founds.

stev0 07-09-2007 12:32 PM

It's a proven fact that all Canadians are drug addicts.

The individual police forces decide what crimes they will target; The PM has no say in that.

I agree with you though that we don't need are precious law enforcement dollars arresting and prosecuting people for smoking some bud.

I am Canadian born and raised in BC. I moved to the US 3 years ago. That means I can point any fucking finger I want Smokey.

My opinion on marijuana is SIMPLE. Prescribe it to those in pain. It's a brilliant drug for that. If you don't have a prescription and you are using it - you get arrested. That's pretty damn simple.

However as of right now it is illegal - whether silly or not. Which means it needs to be enforced.

If the people have such a problem with it then they can rise up and force change. I don't see you marching on Parliament.

It was YOUR bullshit liberal Frenchie asshole Prime Minister that voted to go to war in the first place, so don't start pointing the finger of blame until you can accept that fact. Harper should be pulling troops, but he didn't put them in that shithole to start with.

"Prime Minister of Canada to Visit Washington
Statement by the Press Secretary
Prime Minister of Canada to Visit Washington

President Bush has invited Prime Minister Chretien of Canada to come to Washington for a working visit on Monday, September 24 2001. The Prime Minister has accepted. The President and the Prime Minister will meet in the Oval Office, followed by a private lunch.

President Bush wants to tell Prime Minister Chretien personally how moved America has been at the outpouring of support and solidarity from the Canadian people and government after the attacks on September 11. The President also wants to continue our close and ongoing consultation with the Prime Minister as we look together at next steps in the war on terror. "
