Beckham's arrival in Los Angeles - countdown

3 days, 23 hours, 7 minutes & 37 seconds as of now :)

Can't wait till he comes to Los Angeles and starts playing. I will watch most of his games in the stadium in Los Angeles.
I can't wait :)

Count Down
Will you be watching?

Scott McD 07-09-2007 11:00 AM

I think Celtic play them in the next week or two.

So yeah i'll be watching !! :winkwink:

Ross 07-09-2007 11:01 AM

Such a shame he's sold out tho. He's far too good for the MLS. Especially with LA Galaxy. I watched one of there games when I was on holiday. They really suck.

He should have moved to a top European club for a nother 2 years then went to the USA when he was 34.

There are 250 million + (advertising) reasons I can think of.
He will get into the movie industry too :)

scottybuzz 07-09-2007 11:12 AM

Hes a dam good footballer, such a shame he is going after publicity than the game :(

Besides his mammoth contract, he'll get a ton of endorsement deals here and will be a bigger star then he previously was.

Madrid really did fuck him about, and he wasn't going to play in England cause he still loves Man U, only the 2 milans left and they couldn't put a deal together.

Shame he couldn't have stayed a few more years with Madrid, I used to like watching him.

Probably not, because there isn't enough commercial breaks for them in a game of football (soccer).. :1orglaugh

David Beckham could command $400K a week from any top European Club. Yes he's getting $1 million per week now but he's still at the top of his game, and doesn't exactly need the money so he still sold out to the USA for the fame.. Probably for his wife as he's one of the biggest sportsmen on the planet.

I'm a REAL football fan, and I just find it sad to see him go to a poor league where he won't be tested too much.

Man, $1 million dollars per week without any advertising revenues is a lot of money for just playing soccer. You got to love it :)

RP Fade 07-09-2007 11:49 AM

I read somewhere that the Galaxy has already made an extra $25 Million in revenue from season tickets, merchandise, etc before he even plays a single game. Maybe not such a dumb move after all...

Cash 07-09-2007 11:51 AM

WTF, you speak of him like he's Jesus, when he's just a player, not even very good nowadays ... I'm sick of seeing his face in so many commercials, etc.

That's just the beginning of it all.

The money Real Madrid made from him in his time there was unreal...

In his 4 years are Real Madrid, they released a statement saying he earned them $600 million in merchandising sales. Thats 50% of it as the other 50% went to Beckham himself... incredible...

i can't respect any sport where games can be decided on people completely faking injuries. i'm not trying to insult anyone, but i think soccer is a joke. i appreciate the cardio and skill that the sport requires, but it's played by a bunch of pansies otherwise. 2c

Ok, but do you like Baseball? I bet you do, and I think baseball is a joke to watch :)

SxDx 07-09-2007 12:06 PM

everyone has their own opinion and of course you are entitled to yours. but baseball games aren't decided by people rolling around on the ground like they've had their leg blown off when in reality, they've been lightly tapped (or not touched at all).

KILL_FRENZY 07-09-2007 12:10 PM

I don't think Backham can transform the team . Maybe if they'll buy more European or south american players

I agree, but he will transform the game in USA possibly.

$1 million a week is a lot for a player, and more will follow.

The Duck 07-09-2007 12:47 PM

Finally one good player in the american league.

I hate cheats in soccer but its a very small amount of people who do it. Its more so in Italy and South America you see that stuff. It the UK and Spain they're trying really hard to stamp it all out and its working. People who fake injury are booked or even worse sent off.

needlive 07-09-2007 12:53 PM

Great player, Galaxy fans are happy I guess. Honestly, I just love the way he can kick, the technique of it. Gonna watch a few games, guess he'll be nice on the pitch.

I am chauncy 07-09-2007 12:54 PM

I am sorry but he will fail here the US will never accept soccer and to all the soccer fans please don't think I am bashing soccer I think that it is a very tough sport to play but in the states it is relegated to the sport that people play when they can't make the football, basketball, and baseball teams or their parents either cant afford or are scared by hockey. soccer is just above band geek here in the states it sucks its not fair but it is what it is and that will never change

We shall see. There is a lot of truth in what you are saying. I think it's not an action filled sport and they tried to make it exciting by making it indoors and that didn't work. I heard they want to make the goals bigger to get higher total game scores to make it exciting. The other problem is 45 minutes of no breaks for advertising.

The world had better hope that soccer never becomes a popular sport in the US. If it does, we will sign away every single good player in the world.

The contract was $250 Million for five years. At 32 games per season that comes out to $1,562,500 per game. This is why the world can't keep their good athletes out of the US.

Thumbnailer 07-09-2007 03:40 PM

he is not as good as he used to be a few years ago

CE_Chris 07-09-2007 03:44 PM

no one will ever be better than Pele and the Cosmos!!

UniversalPass Pete 07-09-2007 08:48 PM

Either way the guy is making bank! $50 million a year! (just in salary) He doesn't need to be a movie star! He makes more money!:pimp

Viper2K1 07-09-2007 09:00 PM

it's his wife who wanted them to move to the US
she's the one who wants to do movies ... she's already "best friends" with Tom Cruise etc

(I read those gossip-magazines when I'm taking a dump :) ...)

aico 07-09-2007 09:07 PM

why would he want to play Soccer in a country that isn't very Soccer friendly? No offense to Soccer, but it's just not popular here.

buzzy 07-09-2007 09:12 PM

It's a shame, because the MLS is a joke, LA Galaxy is a joke...I'm just scared because hes in america...the word soccer is going to be more widespread. That word should be banned...lol

"The Football Federation Australia has guaranteed English superstar David Beckham will play with his new US club LA Galaxy in a one-off match against Sydney FC.

The FFA said today the match will take place at Sydney?s Telstra stadium on Tuesday, November 27.

It will be Beckham?s first visit to Australia and also his first appearance outside North America for the Galaxy."

I will be going to this one!
