Fellow webmasters be carful. Some surfurs disgusing themselfs as Google Bot

Fellow webmasters be careful. Some surfers disguising them selfs as Google Bot.
Reporting this so that you can change your site and protect yourselfs from hackers.
Hope it helps guys.

Seems that someone found a hack and is using it to bypass memberships and access pay sites 4 free.
It says the following "dont know if this is an old trick but ive just come across a site that explains how to disguise yourself as google bot. this allows you to access pay sites 4 free

Ever wondered why a google search returned search results that lead to sites that require a registration ? How the hell did googlebot index the site without a registration ? Many sites want their site indexed in google to recieve more hits and thus, make more money with advertisment on their site. Even more interesting is the following question: How do we use this to our advantage ? "

The whole article showing surfers how to do it can be read on http://quicksilverscreen.com/ipb/ind...howtopic=29115

Uhm, if Google is indexing password protected areas, your password protection needs some serious work....

ummmm.. no.. As it says above, some sites are actually allowing googlebot past the password protection for the benifits they can receive.

Seeing as how the user agent is so easily forged, I'm not sure if the benefits outweigh the risks.

No shit... But then again if anyone was using the useragent as opposed to the googlebot IPs, well, they deserve what they get
