Anyone drink scotch?

Have a favorite scotch?

Always been a fan of Johnny Walker. Anyone like scotch? Have a favorite?

TSGlider 07-08-2007 01:44 PM

lovin' the macallan these days. dig Scapa too.

In the "under $100 a bottle" category, my fave is probably Bowmore 17 Year.

I ended up trying that one after tasting their "Scotch Dusk" - which spends the last part of maturation in Bordeaux casks, and, having done the same thing with beer before, myself - I thought it'd be interesting to see how the complexities played in Scotch.

I drink just about any scotch . . . . not a snob about it

Lee 07-08-2007 01:51 PM

I was following an auction of fine Scotches on the internet the other day for the Cognacs that were tagged on the end. Some fine ones went through there that fetched a fair few pennies.

But myself Ive never been a fan of Scotch.

A snob has the philosophy that others are inferior, usually by way of imitating a lifestyle that the snob aspires to, but does not belong by right.

Not everyone that enjoys a drink, has a preference, and can talk about it is a "snob" - personally, I just dig on beverages the same way that some people dig on sports.

I wasn't directing my comment to you. Just meant that I can enjoy J&B or Dewers.

just started drinking it within the past year and most has been johnny walker so i really need to branch out and see if there are others that taste as good and less expensive

Johnny Walker isn't really that expensive when it comes to scotch. But, as stated above, Dewers and J&B are enjoyable as long as you don't start adding soda pop to them.

J&B is my favourite, I'm drinking Johnnie Walker right now and I don't like it at all, couldn't drink it on the rocks so I filled my glass with water

Yeah - I didn't really think that you were - but felt the need to clarify on behalf of those that are often confused with being snobs - when all they really want is to talk about good drinks.

(This being a "what's your favorite" thread in which it was said 'I don't have a favorite - I'm not a snob,' ya know)

Nothing on you, bro - I know you're just about as good a guy as they come... just felt the need to express.

It's funny, I always considered myself a Dewers guy, going back a lot of years now. Even during the big single malt push in the mid-'90s, never tried one that got me overly excited. They just seemed more expensive, and their unique complexities didn't do it for me.

Then I tried Macallan a couple of years ago. I was totally blown away by it.

Picked up a liter in Mexico at the duty free shop at a good price and I agree about the pop thing. sometimes one or two pieced of ice

LaoTzu 07-08-2007 03:28 PM

Almost anything single barel from the Highland, Speyside or Islay regions. There's so much whiskey from the north these days that the prices can be really low, but don't assume it's not good. Of course I've never met a glass of scotch I didn't like.

Dagwolf 07-08-2007 05:40 PM

I don't like Scotch. I like Jack Daniels, I like Southern Comfort... but I dont'like Scotch whiskey.

Tried blue or green? :winkwink:

About the only stuff you can get here is Glenfiddich and Johnny Walker... I have a bottle of Glenfiddich 15 year for special occasions. More of a rum drinker though (Zacapa 23, yummm), and been getting into martinis lately.
