I am entering a Outpatient Detox Program soon........

Psychiatist through last few years had me on so much shit that it was out of control.

At advice of mmy MD i have toned down alot of the shit i was on. I need to wheen of the Effexor and Xanax very slowly.... Going to see the specialist this week hopefully . Within 6+ months i should be "clean" and off this crap.

My advice. Dont see a shrink. The crap they prescripe which is "legal" is 10x more deadly than the so called "non legal" stuff

Other option is going to a inpatient facility but i dont think i will do that.

hehehhe the govt has specialized programs and stuff for health insurannce , its called HealthNy pr something like that.

You gotta be making like very low income to get it. If Bush would spend 1/2 the money he spent on iraq war for a US Health Care system then that would be nice.

I dont see a US wide healthcare system anytime in my lifetime being implimented. Too much poliics and red tape involed.

BoyAlley 07-06-2007 06:56 PM

Well, if you're serious about this Juicy, then good for you. I wish you the best. :thumbsup

its going to be a tight tapering off process , there will be side effects thats a given... but tbh man these meds do help....but once you get used to it then they up the dosage more and more and more till you are fucked...

Ill be under medical supervision so I hope all wworks out.

Good luck to you, and get in a support group - it helps to have contact with others that really know what you are going through...

Right I only take 225 mg of Effexor /day and 1mg 3x/day of Xanax

the other shit i was given i took for a week or so then off of it. I take a Vicodin on occasion for my back spasms but my MD wont give me enough to get me hooked on em. Just enough for emergencies

This seems to be a reoccuring problem: more and more psychiatrists are using biopsychological treatments first rather than leaving them as a last resort. These medications should be used as a last resort for most individuals, or used immediately for those who are deemed to be a danger to their self or others.

Behavioral modification, in addition to talk therapy is much more ideal. Unfortunately, we're always looking for a magic pill, a quick-fix solution. From what I understand, the S.O.P. for using anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medication (when chosen as a primary treatment) is to stabilize the patient, and then gradually lower doses over time when they become more able to cope with whatever stressors are involved in their life. It sounds like your shrink did the opposite (upping the dosage over time).

Best of luck in detoxifying, Juicy. Hopefully when you're finished you'll seek out another psychiatrist who's less prescription-happy. I actually know a guy who has his own practice. Very cool guy, very smart. He was a professor of mine at Hofstra. I'll give you his email if you'd like.

Are you still on the paxil?

Spunky 07-06-2007 07:56 PM

Good luck with that man..hope you can kick that shit

JaneB 07-06-2007 08:01 PM

Good luck Juicy. It should be ok. I know some people getting of Lexapro and Klonopin. They said it is hard but they are making it. There are good shrinks out there that will not over medicate you. So if you need a shrink in time, just tell them you do not want to be all doped up. I thought you said you had anxiety issue, so they should not have put you on Effexor. That is a nasty ass drug. Tried it once and it sucked.

xclusive 07-06-2007 08:04 PM

You should also consider working out a lot more and drinking a lot of water. It will help clean out your system faster.

Yup, I did the same. Did a few semesters, and then took a few semesters off; repeat the process over and over until I had enough credits to graduate. Took me six years as well.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 07-07-2007 03:59 AM

You are lucky to be alive...

The shit will fuck you up hard...
Yer brain will never work the same especially after shit like Ritalin, Prozac etc...

Psychoactive shit fucks brain cells.

Madame0120 07-07-2007 06:04 AM

It will be a tough row to hoe, but you have a great support system and that will make the difference. Remember to eat well w/ lots of protein and get lots of sleep.

I hope you have someone staying with you ... detoxing is a bitch to do alone.

I give you a hard time sometimes... but I feel for you there, and agree with you on that statement 100%.

There is way too many so called doctors, dispensing that shit like candy.
