How to put together 'Terms and Conditions' of a site.

Has anyone experience of putting together Terms and Conditions and a Privacy Policy for a site?
Does it really need a professional legal person to put them together? Or is there some scope in 'borrowing' text from existing sites?
Any help greatly appreciated!

Funny thing is websites leeching copyright notice texts, and forget to change the text to their own domains or something. Or have exact the same wrong typos.

Yes, I can imagine. I guess the easiest way is to find a similar site and 'amend' their text in an 'appropriate' way... :)

It's kind of obvious that the right way to do it is to pay a lawyer. It could mean the difference between informed or coerced consent for a visitor clicking through.

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated.

I guess it might have helped to give a little more detail. This is for a site where the terms and conditions are privacy policy relate to advertisers on the site rather than the surfers.
