i think the problem with creating so much hype is that there is no possible way to live up to the expectations that were created. sort of like before the segway came out... people expected a personal space ship and time travel device or something.. then were disappointed in what it actually turned out to be

teenfeetcash 07-05-2007 10:22 AM

The lack of 3G is a big turn off for me.

Yea, I hear you.. but truth be told, the iPhones EDGE connection has been pretty snappy for me. All but very image heavy pages (TGP's/MGP's) load quicker than I would expect. I have been pleasantly surprised.

Also, I have been very underwhelmed by many phones and their 3g connections. If anything has more hype than the iPhone, its the term, "3g". Theoretically they should perform ridiculously well, but in reality they suffer the same kind of latency that EDGE has, and throughput is significantly lower (usually) than what they are supposed to be able to do. Either way, I havnt missed it.

Many phones out there have such slow processors, and small amounts of ram (*ahem* Nokia), that the bottle neck for page rendering is really the CPU, and not the network. My Nokia N80 for example, feels just as sluggish over wi-fi as it does over EDGE.:Oh crap

Even the iPhones youtube videos seem to load and play continuously after only a few seconds of buffering.

Tell ya what...I've had it for about a week now and it's simply amazing. Only issue i had was the delay in porting my verizion # to AT&T after that the Iphone does not disappoint in the least. The Browsing and video capabilities are incomparable. Email is a snap and all of the other bells and whistles are extremely user friendly and useful. I highly recommend getting one if you are into organization, ease of use, and cutting edge technology.

my :2 cents::2 cents:

thehose 07-05-2007 07:07 PM

dude.. if the device is lost or stolen or if it breaks, you lose your cellphone... and your camera... and your camcorder... and your portable tv... and your gps... n your mp3 playa... your contacts and I don't know how much more shit that they crammed in there.

me? I keep it gutter, unless you pay me to beta test one and beat the crap out of one of these fruity phones.

nico-t 07-05-2007 07:11 PM

i dont understand people buying that thing... It looks bulky as a motherfucker, like one of those 80´s mini tv´s. I like my cell to be as small as possible.

All the fags that buy it always carry their manpurse, so no problem with size.

Apple has done with this phone what they have done with almost every product. It is something that always annoys me. They think they know better. They force you to use certain things, work in certain ways, because "it's better". Forcing you onto a single network, using the EDGE data network, etc are all typical Apple moves.

Remember, Itunes media doesn't play on other players.

Apple are arrogant, smug, and wrong way too often.

thats what ive been saying all the time, but theres always the apple sheep who love the non-compatibility of the brand... I hate apple.

Thurbs 07-05-2007 07:33 PM

ver 2 will be the shit .. right now its all about the UI / design / screen and nifty things like proximity sensors.

once they go 3g, add in gps, up the camera, and make all the apps work together ie for data usage, it will be killer.

but 3g is kind of bleh anyway, i use my tre650 over my o2 atom life 90% of the time.

thehose 07-05-2007 08:05 PM

using apple products is like taking candy from a child...
struggling with the million combinations of soft/hard in winblows and linux is like fightning a worthy oponent...

I read that somewhere, lmao.

One major issue (among others) with the iphone has kept me from spending the money...

You can't answer a call while surfing the web...haha..so if you're surfing the web, and someone calls you, it goes straight to voice mail....I mean, WTF is that??? I can conference in a call, but i can't get a call while on the web? That's ultra gay.

I'm looking at the Helios Ocean phone these days which supports evdo (which i already use for my tablet and perfer over EDGE). Evdo is fast as hell on my tablet.

The other advancements in usabiltiy that the iphone has, make up for that drawback IMHO. Its a limitation of edge. Once the iPhone has 3g, that problem will go away. Besides, who wants to interrupt their web browsing with a phone call :). Also, it really only happens during the moments when data is actually transferring. If you are looking at a page and the data is done downloading, you will still get calls.

No they didn't really change it. What happened was one company out of the four major record companies agreed to release their music in mp3 form. So when you buy something from that company only it can be played on anything.

Unfortunately that company only accounts for about 17% of the available music.

If only Apple would license their Fairplay DRM to other companies then people would be able to play their music anywhere. But no, they would never do that because then that would allow you to use non apple players. Heaven forbid!

Steve Jobs is a smug asshole.

iTunes, has always been a rip off... same with just about every other music service. Emusic used to be good. Its definately not quite the same as it used to be, but still better than most. All DRM'less music. And its pretty trivial to rip the fairplay DRM of an iTunes file, if you so desire.

That would be a major deal breaker for me...

geeknik 07-06-2007 08:46 PM

What a piece of shit. I'll stick with my LG AX8600. It's got a 4GB micro SD card for all of my pictures, videos, mp3s. And *gasp* it's actually a phone that fucking works 100% of the time. :)

Juilan 07-06-2007 10:48 PM

how many recharges before I need a new battery?

NetCashBrian 07-13-2007 08:32 PM

I am glad I did not get one this round, but I am def in, if they fix some of the obvious flaws.

Spunky 07-13-2007 08:38 PM
