    Pet Peeve of the Day

    Ok, today this is my pet peeve. I've had this come up in many conversations lately for no particular reason.

    If you don't care about something, say
    "I could NOT care less."
    This means you already don't care. You can't care less than 0%.

    If you say
    "I could care less"
    Then you are saying you DO care, and you could care a little less than you already do. This does not make sense when you are trying to explain how LITTLE you care about something.

    Use your BRAINS, people!

    Ok, next! Anyone else have any pet peeves they need to vent?

          I personally hate it when someone uses the wrong form of there, their, or they're in conversation... then I have to stop everyone and ask which form they meant to use, spell it out, and then correct them...

          It becomes very time consuming, and difficult in crowded bars especially.

                                                              It doesn't much to do with posting on GFY, but when I slow down to let someone merge in front of me and I don't get a courtesy wave, I feel like exploding into a violent rage. Just a wave of the hand, doesn't have to be much, just something that says thanks for helping me out.

                                                                                                      What really ticks me off is when I'm ready to check out at a grocery store with a lot of items in my cart and there's longer lines at each register except for the express lane (12 items or less) which is totally empty and I look at the people in the regular lines and they only have a couple of items, so instead of going through the express lane without a wait, they wait in a regular line making me longer, just to piss me off !!! ha ha ha.

                                                                                                                              1st off, it's not just Midwesterners.

                                                                                                                              I think pop is acceptable and I am from the Midwest. I've heard that people in Texas ask what kind of Coke you have...which is all kinds of messed up in my head unless you are asking what Coke products you have and not what types of pop you have.

                                                                                                                              I think there are 3 acceptable terms: pop, soda, or soda pop

                                                                                                                              You can't refer to what is inside of your plastic cup as Coke or Pepsi if you are drinking Mt. Dew. Pop is a general term for types of carbonated soda.

                                                                                                                                          That just reminded me, I hate it when people of Italian or Spanish heritage say certain words with ridiculous accents, but say everything else normally. I know how they say mozzarella in Italy, but you've never been there, so say like the rest of your words!!!

                                                                                                                                              I've got a twist on that one....Express line is not open. Someone has a cart full of enough product to feed an army, coupons as thick as the Sunday (newspaper) edition and uses a check to pay. I get in line behind him/her with 2 items-1 of them being ice cream. Person sees what I've got, before it's their turn to check out, and proceeds to check out anyway.

                                                                                                                                              Anyone who gets in line behind or next to me with just a couple of items, I always let them get ahead of me.

                                                                                                                                                                  The term actually came to great use when there were a lot of the animal plante type shows on in the 70's. Most of the time, when they wanted to show something striking, they would show a hawk or Eagle grab its prey, and they used the term. it was a " Fatal swoop " but they would say in " IN one fatal swoop " meaning to kill in the down swoop of flight.
