Labor Day Wknd Jerry Lewis Telethon...
 

I just got an email from my mom saying that tomorrow morning my little brother is being interviewed for the annual Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon. I've never watched it before, but looks like I will be checking it out this year. Probably have to watch the thing all damn day to catch him though, my mom didn't know when it would be aired. Just thought this was pretty cool...

For those of you who don't know, this is an annual telethon which is geared towards raising money for the various research projects that the Muscular Dystrophy Association is involved with. Every year the telethon has entertainment from various stars and I believe school bands and the such. Like I said, I've never watched it before so this will be an all new thing.

I have been putting off contributing to this fund but hopefully one day they will find a cure. I willl contribute some funds to this

About the cure... last time I heard they were "close". Had some great results from testing on birds and mice. Had even started a research project on humans a couple years back with positive results, but the project got delayed because of FDA hold-ups.

Gene therapy will probably lead to the cure. From what I understand, they already know how to correct the defective genes, but the "transportation" is a huge problem.

My aunt Judy died from one of the many diseases involved with MD, I honestly don't remember which one because I was just a kid and didn't fully understand it.

She had lived with us for a short time and was a really cool lady.

It was a hard life for her, but she remained pretty active in MDA raising money etc.

I've always been a big fan of Jerry Lewis and this guy has been raising money to help fund research for cures since like the 40's.
The guy's a work horse.

I know he's taken a lot of shit over the last few years even from those afflicted by the disease, but man if it wasn't for him there might not be this much awareness.

The Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon is almost as American as Apple Pie anymore.

I remember watching the Jerry Lewis MDA telethon since I was like 8 years old or something... which is a long time.... :)
