Do you prefer reviews to be personal/humorous or objective/serious?

I am starting a mainstream review site.

what do you feel is better for returning visits?

Well the best IMO is for them to be all of the above.

-Personal? Can they be any other way?
-Humourous? They better be.
-Objective? They should be if you want visitors to take you seriously.
-Serious? Reviewing sites is a professionl job, so you should try to be as serious as possible while adding some taste and wit to your reviews.

:2 cents:

thank you for your post :thumbsup

however, i see "personal and objective", along with the pairing of "humorous and serious" to be contradictory terms.

so, how about this:
objectional and serious is the meal. while humor and personality are the spice.

I understand that I may have contradicted myself there. But you make an excellent point. The reviews should combine a bit of everything. You should defintely try to create your own style and attitude for the reviews. Will you be writing the reviews yourself?

No, i will not be writing. a very close friend of mine will be instead. i am trying to find the language to describe how reviews should not be serious to the point of boring, yet not humorous to the point of wacky.

There are a ton of review sites out there and most of them are horrible IMO. You know who writes some pretty decent reviews IMO?

www.planetclimax.com

They are well written, fun to read and pretty accurate. They don't overdo it, which is important IMO. But I think the important thing is to create your own style and try to be original with the reviews.

Good luck :thumbsup

Sounds like a mini-wheat commercial.
