could the presidency be bought?

all this talk about campaign finance, whose ahead, behind, whatever, it seems like thats the indicator for whose going to get the nomination. Romley is has donated like 10 million so far into his campaign

do you think a guy like bill gates or some other obscenely-rich motherfucker could just come in, throw $750 million or more of their own cash into a campaign and just win the election, if they wanted to?

you'd think that that would be a nice legacy for a rich guy to have

isn't that how JFK won?

It's a fact.

Here's my opinion, which means nothing:

1. What "rich" guy who has enough problems of being rich also wants the issues associated with running a country?

2. It takes a lot more than money to buy special interest groups who help elect people - you pretty much gotta sell your soul to them and suck their preverbial cocks while in office.

3. One and two being said, I might actually prefer a government of elected "philanthropic" (for lack of a better term I can come up with) business people compared to career "politicians".

Not true. Look at MoveOn.org. Their politics are detestable, but they started small and now have a large influence.

I just have one question -

I know it's fun thinking about and posting shit about how fucked up government are -- but do you really think there's a "revolution" any time soon in a "western-type" government?

DatingGold 07-03-2007 10:48 PM

i think its more about power than money. i also think us peons will never know

GatorB 07-03-2007 11:11 PM

If money can buy a Presdiency how come Perrot didn't win in 1992? Of course on could make a point that he really wasn't try to win as much as he wanted to fuck Bush over.
