Goodbye Australia - I'm Leaving.

AUD/USD is 86 cents.

Australia is officially 30% more expensive to live in than USA.

I'm not waiting til the dollar 1:1 like it was back in the 70s/80s.

Time to Jet!

Aussie Rebel 07-02-2007 08:59 PM

Yeah the dollar sucks and is only going to get worse

d00t 07-02-2007 09:05 PM

Adam_M 07-02-2007 09:09 PM

RawAlex 07-02-2007 09:15 PM

I think he's talking about the central american push to unify like the Eu did - they wanna merge central american countries and have one currency also.

if - i should say WHEN that happens.. the USD is screwed :warning

Cell phone charges??? My US cell experience has been extremely cheap compared to home...

US phone: 39/month (USD) for 1000 min, free txt, im etc
AU phone: ~65/month (USD), 35c/min + flag, unlimited free sms/mms

I'll head to the highest bidder, lol ... recommendations?

The Other Steve 07-02-2007 10:19 PM

There's no doubt that the USD sucks but instead of going to the expense of moving overseas just look around you right here in Oz - there's plenty of work to be picked up here by anyone who can design a decent website - hell most of us could do it blind drunk and still run rings around those who claim to be professionals in Australia.

NewbieNudes 07-02-2007 11:00 PM

Yep - it's got to stop! We are gaining in sales and traffic but declining in earnings because of this USD.

When George W is gone and the USA stop pissing money into the wind in Iraq then hopefully it will bounce back.

Fingers Crossed.

Very true Steve.

Our Australian business is doing just fine since it's all in AUD anyway but when you've got tens of thousands of dollars coming in from USA every week.... every cent the dollar increases in value is literally thousands that comes off the bottom line.

Plus, USA has Dr Pepper and cheap cars!

d00t 07-02-2007 11:07 PM

to be honest i dont see it going down anytime soon.

Look at the historical data.

We can remember the days of 48c :(

Doot - I understand where you're coming from - and you're right - the Aussie dollar is not likely to come down any time soon ... and sometimes I doubt that it ever will.

Ramos 07-03-2007 02:51 PM

come to florida :)

Phoenix 07-03-2007 02:58 PM

tranza 07-03-2007 03:00 PM

Buy a gun then big boy. Everyone knows 90% of canadians will lay on their back if a merger either hostile or not ever happened with the USA.

Calico Jack 07-03-2007 04:07 PM

The 48 cent days weren't all that long ago either...5 or 6 years. I used to love goibg to the bank and doubling my money on the spot. Times were good.

nekrom 07-03-2007 05:25 PM

Fuck it's a crock of shit, tell me bout it. 5 years back it was around .50 and around .85 for a litre of petrol. I rekon the rest of us won't be too far behind you.

$USD1000 @0.48 = $AUD2083 (2001)
$USD1000 @0.87 = $AUD1149 (today)

Not long to go before the effective income between then and now is down 50% (which really hurts me cos that's when I got into adult)

How's the NZ dollar looking? You pay no income taxes for the first 4 years. :Graucho

Lisa 07-03-2007 06:04 PM

Shit Mark, we'll miss you! :( :(

If I was single I'd probably be over there by now, I would love to have an extra 25-30% of my gross income in my pocket. Alas I have a wife, kid, cats and mortgage.

I live in Asia but the company is US based (Vegas) but I am from Sydney. Took the kids for a holiday there a few months back and yes....it was hugely expensive.

I am in the US several times a year and it, compared to Sydney, seems real cheap. Exchange rate, the costs and the tax rate and I cant go home except for a holiday.... thats sad.

Sydney is still beautiful and nothing beats lunch at Doyles but when the shittiest Chinatown eatery (That does great food) called BBQ King is $100 plus for a decent feed then insanity wins.

Yeah that kinda makes it hard.. It's hard to imagine living without paying tax, that'd be like a dream come true!

It's another fantasy from the US - no way does any neighboring country, Cental America or South America want to be associated with the dollar as it is now.

DatingGold 07-03-2007 10:50 PM

I honestly wonder how much of a shift we're going to see in the next year or so. The Euro is so tempting at the moment.

90c is some seriously heavy bullshit. I so hope it doens't get there. On the flip side those big domain sales are looking a lot more affordable!

zeruel 07-04-2007 06:51 AM

good luck on your journey to where dollar is quite good... :winkwink:
