They're not going after end users anyways. so it hardly effects us. Maybe a price rise in digital hardware and graphics software, but that's about it.

Unless of course, you happen to own Adobe or Sony.

I'm about to start licensing AIR as I have the patent for it. Yes, I will after I get off this chair.

You're fucked, I patented HAIR and as you're on a cHAIR for profit, you have to pay me my dues on a blatant copyright violation...

this statement rocks

"You can't swing a dead cat without hitting somebody who has a JPEG patent claim," says Lisa Walker, executive director of the International Imaging Industry Association, a Harrison, N.Y.-based industry coalition favoring open standards for image technologies.

I doubt anything will come of it. Too bad ABC news there is claiming SONY is playing ball tho.

TheFLY 09-01-2002 10:04 AM

Well I didn't read the article but this has happened before with other image formats... If I remember correct, Compuserve created the .GIF format and many graphics programs do not support it because there's a license cost involved. JPEG is pretty old technology now -- it could be replaced pretty quickly if there was a license problem.

Anyway, congrats to whoever fixed GFY -- all last week the shit was crashing my Opera browser...

Frank W 09-01-2002 10:41 AM

Hmmmm. Hopefully same practical effect as UNISYS' ownership claims on the .gif format.
