Frontpage and Paint Shop Pro OR Dreamweaver and Photoshop?

Which set is better? The computer class I am taking prefers Frontpage and Paint Shop Pro for some reason..

MrPopup 08-31-2002 06:39 PM

Books my man...they'll be way more current then any course.

Vagisil 08-31-2002 06:39 PM

how can u even dare say frontapge and PSP? those are newb toolz

MrPopup 08-31-2002 06:41 PM

Homesite 6.0 most likely won't exist. It'll be a crappy extension of Dreamweaver.

Chris R 08-31-2002 06:41 PM

I use dreamweaver and microsoft paint.
Ok - my graphics suck. Frontpage is awful. Dreamweaver is 10x better. Don't know much about homesite - so I can't comment.

Frontpage can take a 10k webpage and turn it into 150k.

pornJester 08-31-2002 06:41 PM

i use frontpage and photoshop, newbie tool or not, gets the job done.

CDSmith 08-31-2002 06:47 PM

PSP 7 is a newb tool?

Bwahahahahahaaaa!!!!!

heymatty 08-31-2002 06:48 PM

If you started with frontpage take the time to switch to dreamweaver its worth it

fuckwithlove 08-31-2002 06:48 PM

fuck , Frontpage is the stardard of webpage makers . go figure.

Layla~Jade 08-31-2002 06:59 PM

PageMill 3.0
Photoshop 7.0

A little lo-tek, a little hi-tech...

GTS Mark 08-31-2002 07:38 PM

I started off a few years back with Front Page and then after a while I converted over to Dreamweaver. Best choice I ever made!

dreamweaver and photoshop 7

AllisonWonderland 08-31-2002 07:55 PM

I started with Frontpage and recently switched to Dreamweaver MX. I actually have Macromedia Studio MX but haven't taken the to learn Fireworks, so I use PSP.

Frontpage will indeed bloat your site - take a look in your VTI files. It's great for a learning tool, but once you get a handle on it, go to Dreamweaver.

Va2k 08-31-2002 08:00 PM

Dude from talking and doing some things for you Ya know I don't bs so Here is my thought which isnt much.... PHOTOSHOP is a must.... Learn psp as well... DREAMWEAVER is awesome... FRONTPAGE is awesome as well.. Alot of people don't like front page because it loads the page down with crappy code.. Like right now I have a client that has hired me localy to build a commodity trading site for stocks etc... He wants me to use front page NOT dreamweaver.. I was NOT going to argue with him seeing he is going to be paying me losts $$$$$

I personaly don't like o start any project with frontpage so I fireup dreamweaver and make a small template... then doing the rest in dreamweaver...

They are both really good programs imo... So I would learn everything you have mention above.. But if you must pick I would pick Dreamweaver and Photoshop... Once you get the basic's with photoshop its amazing what you can learn... BTW IF you ever I MEAN ever need help with any of them programs let me know and I will help you all day IF I have too.. Im not no Amp nor did I goto any type of school but im getting better every time I open photoshop....

Peace mate

and HOPE YOU LIKE THE women where ya at.... yum yum :2 cents:

High Quality 08-31-2002 08:11 PM

Personally I use Dreamweaver and Fireworks. Photoshop is too fucking expensive.

DrewKole 08-31-2002 08:11 PM

depends, you care for your class or for yourself?

Anyone who doesn't use dreamweaver and photoshop or atleast 1 of the 2, doesn't know what they are missing.

Use them, and say fuck it to the teacher, who cares as long as your sites look 10x better than the rest of the class.

Seems like your professor is a fuckin yuppy tard, rather than any sort of designer...

Bet he's a programmer by trade, :P

i concur, i have used dreamweaver but im just more comfortable using frontpage2000. take the bulky code out if you dont want it, not hard.
:2 cents:

bhutocracy 08-31-2002 10:36 PM

PS and dreamweaver/homesite are the professional standards. You won't find many of the big web design agencies using the other two.

Web page makers who don't do HTML, maybe. I won't touch a site that's been touched by FrontPage. Makes more sense to start from scratch.

Chuh, it's MicroSoft! :uhoh

eru 08-31-2002 10:56 PM

Well -- I did send an email asking why they choose those programs -- they do sell both Photoshop and Dreamweaver along with many many many graphics and OS's at the school store. My biggest guess though as why they choose PSP and Frontpage is the price.

Students are usually broke S.O.B.'s living off their parents and cannot afford the finer things in life. :Graucho

I owe you a drink.

Haven't used an editor in years. TextPad all the way.

phogirl69 08-31-2002 11:09 PM

Any webmasters here use Netscape Composer?
I'm not afraid to admit it, I DO!!!

And as for graphics, I use Xara Webstyle 3.0, it's a GREAT
tool to make logos if your graphically challenged like me... Or
I just grab them for free at www.flamingtext.com :winkwink:

TripleForce 08-31-2002 11:13 PM

Dreamweaver & Photoshop :thumbsup

Overscore 08-31-2002 11:48 PM

I use Photoshop, although I'm thinking about getting a copy of Fireworks. I've heard that it creates smaller files (size) than Photoshop with the same quality. And as far as an HTML editor, I use Textpad. Great fucking text editor. http://www.textpad.com.

Rochard 08-31-2002 11:49 PM

That's a funny question - I started with Frontpage and Paintshop. These days I'm using Dreamweaver and Photoshop.

Dreamweaver is great, but it might be replaced somewhere on down the line. Photoshop is the standard; It would be hard for another company to beat it down.

T[H]C 09-01-2002 12:18 AM

i started with frontpage but i have been working with dreamweaver for two years now. dreamweaver is MUCH better imho. dreamweaver MX ownz! i just need to get better at php.

photoshop all the way.

eru 09-01-2002 12:23 AM

I'll probably do as little as I have to in PSP and Frontpage. When they want assignments, I'll just do it in Dreamweaver and Photoshop. The Lab portion of the class (ie, where we actual do work and NOT sleep) can be done at home at your own time thankfully.

YDG 09-01-2002 04:08 AM

Those who switched from Frontpage to Dreamweaver, whats the benefits (apart from bloated websites with FP)?

I still use FP, but I have a copy of dreamweaver, may give it a go, if ther are serious advantages.

ServerGenius 09-01-2002 04:24 AM

UltraEdit + $$$ to hire a designer

DynaMite

Jizar II 09-01-2002 06:06 AM

Paint Shop Pro, sucks donkey balls....!

mandrake 09-01-2002 07:45 AM

I use both Frontpage and Dreamweaver as well as PhotoImpact...works well for me...As for frontpage being a newbie tool....as purely a layout tool its fine

Mandrake :smokin

Rex 09-01-2002 07:55 AM

PSP sucks donkey testies. Try out photoshop plus a little fireworks action for slicing (exports nicely as html). Just my :2 cents:

DX 09-01-2002 09:16 AM

anyone that tells you that PSP sucks, doesn't have a fucking clue what they're talking about.

dirtyone 09-01-2002 09:54 AM

I use them all... depends on my mood :glugglug

fear 09-01-2002 10:16 AM

Dreamweaver & Photoshop, of course! :thumbsup

TheFLY 09-01-2002 10:18 AM

The BEST IS...

"COPY CON" for HTML

"DELUXE PAINT 2" for grafix

Yeah TextPad is the shit -- I use it for all my HTML and programming work.

I've been using it forever... Still haven't registered it tho... ;(

TheApostate 09-01-2002 10:20 AM

notepad and PS7 :)

i suppose i oughtta learn DW one of these days though :(

AllisonWonderland 09-01-2002 11:22 AM

The person teaching that class is probably better at FP, tha's why they chose that program. Students can generally get software at student prices at the college bookstore or online. If you're going to New Horizons or somewhere like that, I don't know if you would qualify for student pricing.

I take 2 classes per quarter at the local community college and got Macromedia Studio MX for $199 with my student ID.

Exactly right. Not only that, but probably no clue on how to do good graphics.

Paint Shop Pro comes bundled with a cool animation shop which I like.

My lineup is textpad, NS Composer, and PSP 7. Unbeatable. But whatever one uses, if it works for you then keep right on using what you're using.

CDSmith 09-01-2002 11:46 AM

Btw, texpad has a lot more advantages over notepad. I highly recommend going over to tucows.com and grabbing the free textpad program, you guys will love it.

Oh, man... I downloaded Textpad a while back, and I just found it to be so much what I was looking for, I would not have felt right NOT paying for it. I paid for it, and if I ever make it to England, I'm going to go visit the company and get some autographs or something. :winkwink:

I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned Gimp - maybe I read too much from rabid open source/freeware zealots in other places, and expect it from everyone.

I installed Gimp a while ago and was a bit thrown off by what seemed like an awkward user interface, but I want to find the time to play with it some more.

In the meantime, it's Dreamweaver and Photoshop 7. I am doing work for someone else who requires that I use Frontpage, and I swear I end up having to smash something (usually my keyboard) at least once in a session, to release my anger at some annoying behaviour.

they're gay bro....

PSP isn't so bad..... it has some usefulness.... but Frontpage is worthless junk.

Roald 09-17-2002 11:10 PM

I used to swear by psp, but suddenly I decided to go on and start to use PS. I am glad I made that decission. PS rocks in all its ways.

Q.

BTW there is 1 point in psp I like a lot wich is the browsing tool. PS7 got it but it's not as good as the psp one.

Voodoo 09-18-2002 01:58 AM

Shouldn't this be a poll? Anyhow, Photoshop 7, and Dreamweaver MX.
