AVNads killed my Google rankings?

My TGP has had top 10 keyword placements for a number of terms for many years now. This past week I added an AVNad to my site. Now I've noticed that the terms I had in the top 10 for years are no longer even in the top 100.

My site has not been banned, and my PR has not changed.

Could the AVNads be to blame?

:Oh crap

could be but i doubt it. if it is it would be a penalty to linking to bad neighbourhood and to resolve this simply remove the ads and see if your rank goes back up.

I would assume google is smart enough to know sites get hacked so if one "bad link" showed up and was gone the next week your rank should go back up.

I'm going to try it and see what happens.

Let us know how it goes, that would be interesting info to know.

i had TONS of pages in yahoo... a week after I added an iframe geo target banner to the network. I lost them. Pissed me off. Never doing that again.

I'd love to know the results of this myself...

I don't think it has anything to do with iframes, I know of a site that uses 5 of them on every page and kicks major ass in google. :2cents

AVNads isn't using iframes, it's a javascript.

That may be an issue. Depending on how that javascript is written (or encoded) Google may not like it and may not play nice with it. Remember that at least one anti-spyware program labels sites with AVNads / adbrite on the pages as security risks.

I would say unless they are making you a ton more money this way, I would drop them and see if you get your listings back.

Google re-crawled the site yesterday without the ads but no change yet in rankings.

I've definitely noticed Google being odd for a while. I have sites getting found on really weird terms and not getting found on the most basic terms that nothing should rank higher than they do on.

you sure??

I just got back from a week vacation and my rankings are back. Since I killed the ads everything is back to normal now.

It could just have been a coincidence, but I had those rankings for years without a glitch.
