So I took a spinning class last night ...

And I feel like I still have the bicycle seat up my ass.
Great class though, I sweated more than I sweat in kickboxing:thumbsup

Anyone else do spinning classes?

Juicy D. Links 06-28-2007 08:25 AM

Ahoddie 06-28-2007 08:33 AM

Spinning is the greatest exercise class I've ever taken!

Ice 06-28-2007 08:39 AM

I've taken them before... best workout for your time IMO

First class I took I thought I was going to puke

Monique Niccole 06-28-2007 08:41 AM

I LOVE spinning. I have a class this afternoon actually. The first couple of times you go, you'll hate it and want to kill your instructor, the bike, random people. But once you get into the groove, it's an amazing workout and you'll love it.

Sosa 06-28-2007 08:49 AM

why can't they make soft seats for the bikes? therapudic or something :)

Noe 06-28-2007 08:55 AM

Those spin classes are great, I love them. Have you ever tried an ab class? They're amazing.

The first time we came off the seat, after about 5 minutes I thought that there was no way I was going to make it through the class... but by the end of it I was really glad I did. I will def be back for more!

I did about an hour on a bike once and I couldn't shit right for a week! Why can't they make a bike seat that feels like a hammock? That way you can be lazy while you work out, makes sense to me.

haha, I think you answered your own question in the last sentence... :1orglaugh
The seat is so damn uncomfortable, that when it comes time to lift up, you are relieved to get your buns off that thing and you're not thinking about your legs being killed!

What the hell is spinning? If you're in AZ just go outside and do it I'm sure the triple digit temps will get some sweat out of you. Shit just walk back and forth to your car to the gym, gym to the car, car to the gym, gym to the car and you will be sweating like R. Kelly at a 5th grade spelling bee.

Anthony 06-28-2007 10:19 AM

Spinning is great, but it only works out the bottom half of your body.

I went and bought an airdyne, gets the whole body invovled.

Redmanthatcould 06-28-2007 10:19 AM

I prefer super frisbee at the park - it's pretty fun, and you are essentially just running around for the thing the whole time.

Can't really find anyone to play tennis with me since it's not quite as "pick-up-and-play" as frisbee is... so it's a decent surrogate.

What's an airdyne and does it violate your anus in order to operate?

jonesonyou 06-28-2007 10:24 AM

I'm still in pain from that seat, at least it gave someone joy! haha!

I'm doing awesome! How about you? Any new projects in the works?
I see the movie opened in San Fran, congrats!

I dont' have a problem with the seat I have, and if you need a wider one, it's easy to swap. :)

I found my airdyne to be easier on my knees and ankles, and still get a great cardio workout, whether HIIT or just distance. I can't handle the treadmill anymore. :(

WarChild 06-28-2007 11:39 AM

I don't know how anyone can say spinning is the best cardio. I've done a few classes and it doesn't hold a candle to carrying your own weight running on the street.

True, running is the best cardio that you can do, but spinning is great for people that need low impact.

Not much just shamelessly promoting myself across the globe as usual.
I will be featured next week on UK's ITV on a show called Hollywood Lives..
They shot an entire show around my TV show concept, Virgin Territory.

It's going to be hilarious.
Funnier than Dr. Phil.

Hopefully someone will post it after it airs

jmk 06-28-2007 01:05 PM

Spinning classes are awesome, my favorite! :thumbsup

spinning classes are more like endurance training than fat burning training. Unless you aim from some high athlete standards, I'd stay away from it.

I'd stick with some constant movement, like running, eliptical or even bycicle but at a constant pace, that keeps your HR between the required limits.

Besides this, sweating amount is not a measure of eficiency. You train to lose fat, not water and minerals.

Your statement has some good points however I wouldn't totally agree. For example running intervals or sprints can help you burn three times as much fat as running at a slower consistent pace.

cj_purve 06-28-2007 07:33 PM

I nearly died the first time I did one of those!!!!
& they didn't like it when I lit up a cigarette on the bike LOL

OzMan 06-28-2007 09:51 PM

I wanted to try that but the rooms I see are jammed full of sweaty bodies so I figured they must have about 1% oxygen and be a bit much on the nose.

Don't forget swimming for low impact total body workout.

...and if you don't like getting wet there's this

I'm really considering taking them at my gym. Might be good to do after my hour with my trainer.

Anya 06-29-2007 12:49 AM

Hi Sarah, I've been cycling for years and currently do spin 4-5 days a week, plus upper body workouts to keep myself evened out. I think it's the best stress reliever there is (well, for me).

However, you should consider buying a gel seat cover if you want to continue cycling regularly. Aside from it being easier on your bottom, it's all yours! I've seen too many people get off the bike without even a simple wipe of the saddle. :Oh crap Considering how much a person can perspire during a one hour class, it's just more hygienic to use your own cover.

Another thing to consider if you plan on keeping this up long term, is to invest in a pair of cycling shoes where you can clip into the pedals. You'll feel a greater difference in how that will work your hamstrings.

Keep riding! :thumbsup

Real men don't use jello seats. In my day when we went to spin classes we sat on rocks. Rocks that didn't even look like seats, they looked like Juicy's face! And we liked it, hell we even loved it!

Btw the way, your legs feel great, ours never felt like yours. I had a great time being your cover last class. Can I volunteer agian?

Pornwolf 06-29-2007 05:37 AM

Spinning is quite possibly the best aerobic exercise in the gym. Keep it up Sarah!

LilBro 06-29-2007 05:57 AM

you should all purchase padded bicycle shorts. You can pickup a really good pair for $40 to $50 that will solve the problem. The under $30 shorts are garbage and will not provide good padding...

you can also adjust the sit to angle back and up or angle down. Depending on how you sit, this also make a difference....

MrLuvr 06-29-2007 08:25 AM

I can offer you my face for your next class!
