Led Zeppelin to reunite, finally.

I just heard on the radio about an hour ago that the 3 remaining members of Led Zep are set to reunite for a concert in England, and that observers in the loop are saying that "a full TOUR is not only very likely but is all but certain."

This will be huge if true.

DeadFidel 06-27-2007 06:27 PM

Just when it came out that they stole 90% of their classics..go figure.

Spunky 06-27-2007 06:30 PM

That would be one hell of a concert .hope they make it over here

Pffft, that's all rubbish. What tool living under a rock didn't know they took and adapted blues tunes and put a hard rock slant on them? Led Zep never made it a secret that much of their tunage was based on or adapted direcly from the blues. They took the blues and adapted it to hard rock like no other band in history. In fact most rock fans would never have known about most of those blues songs had Led Zep not reworked them.

And I can name 100's of other artists whose music is based, influenced or otherwise adapted from other forms of music and/or other artists.

Those criticizing the band over that are lame, and have their heads up their asses. :2 cents:

That argument may be valid, but inconsistent. "Baby I'm going to leave you", was a Joan Biaz song, and she never recieved credit nor money for it. "Dazed and confused" was written by Jake Holmes, never got a penny. There are many more INCLUDING the guitar and base lines to "Stairway to heaven"

Brought up by a frustrated and petty website blog operator without a clue, that just weren't there to begin with. It's a silly discussion to be having 30 or 40 years after the fact.

Because she didn't write it.

Bullshit. Joan BAEZ did not write it, she too "borrowed" it.

Bingo. Someone with a clue. :thumbsup

With all the classic bands reuniting and touring over the past 15 years or so, Kiss, Motley Crue, this one, that one.... this is the ONE band that most rock fans have been wanting to see get back together again, virtually since 5 minutes after they broke up.

Mark my words, if there is a tour it will be touted as the biggest musical event of the decade.

Not sure why anyone would want to shit on it.

Seriously, WHO GIVES A SHIT? I couldn't care less if Stairway to heaven was a Disney theme song and they covered it. I like the song, and it sound incredible. Led Zeppelin fucking rocks.

Perhaps you're correct in that it is water under the bridge, but you must admit that back in 1969 the profited from stealing others music. I dig the band and I would pay to see them again, ( MSG 1977 bleed nose seat but I saw them)

But look at all the threads about stolen pussy content HERE. Is there a difference?

There is a difference. Lawsuits occured back then, and Led Zeppelin settled them (at least the ones I've read about, such as the one with Willie Dixon) out of court, funds were paid (thus negating your argument that not a penny was paid to the writer), and credits were given.

Like there weren't tons of other 'artists" back then covering other's songs and not giving credit.

Are there any pending lawsuits against the band today? If not maybe it's time to move on.

CDSmith 06-27-2007 07:54 PM

By the way, this site truly is a fascinating read... http://www.turnmeondeadman.net/Zep/Originals.php
Well researched, obviously, and well-written.

And I wouldn't have found it if not for DeadFidel's post prompting me to garner information soas to support my side of the debate.

Links to the background of each song on the left, and on that page I just linked the final paragraph is particularly poignant...

Perhaps the way to approach this issue is to acknowledge Led Zeppelin's originality but to explore their influences in greater depth. If you're a Led Zeppelin fan, you can broaden your own horizons by listening to Zep's influences in other genres. If you're a Led Zeppelin detractor, then you can take pride in listening to the "true" originals (but bear in mind that they had their influences as well).

CarlosTheGaucho 06-28-2007 08:49 AM

Worth looking for, Page / Plant playing a couple of classics way back in 98 were a very cool show, actually the rock history was kicking ass that night.

I even enjoyed that concert more than some of the classic concerts from 70's with 25 minute song versions and 15 minute guitar solos although Michael Lee was not Bonham and Jimmy Page put up about 100 pounds.

Bonham was actually very close to Bill Ward from Sabbath back in the days, they among with Plant came from the same part of Birmingham. Btw. Plant is in excellent form if he can carry on in the way his last concert in Prague was. Great to see John Paul, he was always one of my favourite bass players and very, very underestimated.

Btw. I have seen another historic show - Black Sabbath in their start of the 80's lineup this monday.

I heard Zep finally has to pay royalties to performers like Willy Dickson for using his songs... Not sure if it's true or not. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Miss Tera 06-28-2007 09:46 AM

OH MY GOD!!! I hope they come here, they are one of my all time favorites and I would love to see them live... I am keeping an eye on this :)

According to the site I already posted a link to in this thread, those lawsuits were settled many years ago.

danevans 06-28-2007 10:14 AM

Plant will be here in ~2 weeks (on EXITfest main stage) I hope he'll play some zeppelin hits too, not just his solo songs.. :) can't wait

You're right. I didn't know this at first. I saw The Simpsons make a joke about this on one episode but didn't get it at the time. Now I realize that Zep did indeed steal almost everything from the blues. I guess someone can give them credit for the way they reworked the songs tho.

SPACE GLIDER 07-08-2007 10:36 PM

Led Zeppelin didn't steal from Joan Baez. They stole from the guy who Joan stole from.

Some things are better as they are. They rocked, their songs still rock, I highly doubt that they will be the same.

I predict they will be disappointing.

I'm afraid I have to agree, it's a little late in the game. But I'll be there anyway.
