Inconvenient Truth - Did you change anything you do?

Pretty amazing stuff. Seems like I could buy some lightbulbs and maybe make a few other changes in my life. What is really nuts is where I live almost no one drives a gas car so we have to be way down on the contribution list.

Another thing was that we had solved the ozone issue. I did not know that.

american pervert 06-26-2007 08:42 PM

this movie is a bunch of horse shit

How can you debate it seriously?

There's lots of ways. One of the most convincing is to look at the graphs Gore uses in the movie himself. They show how CO2 and Temperature seem to be rising together. If you look at the graphs closely, however, you will see that the temperature raises first followed shortly after by the CO2. How can CO2 be causing the temperature increase if this is the case?

aico 06-26-2007 08:50 PM

Yep, I changed out all my lightbulbs.

CuriousToyBoy 06-26-2007 08:51 PM

That movie further underscored the value of statistics in fooling people into believing whatever the fuck you want to try and make them believe.

I changed out all my light bulbs and set my temp a little warmer in the summer and a little colder in the winter. My next house will have geothermal heating/cooling and probably solar panels as well

The Truth Hurts 06-26-2007 09:03 PM

yes.... i decided that i'd never buy another DVD that has Al Gore in it..

Tom_PM 06-26-2007 09:47 PM

Who cares if you believe in global warming or not. Compact flourescent bulbs save you MONEY on energy. Isn't that enough convincing?

Avoid breaking fluorescent lamp tubes.

Fluorescent tubes contain elemental mercury mixed with powder. Crushing tubes creates mercury vapor which is difficult to contain. If you do break a lamp, try to avoid breathing the vapor that is released. Carefully sweep up the lamp, place in a plastic bag and place in a 5-gallon container with a lid. Dispose at a Household Hazardous Waste collection facility.

Because fluorescent lamps contain mercury, it is illegal to put spent lamps in the garbage or trash. When lamps are broken or disposed in the wrong places, they can release mercury, posing a threat to human health and the environment.

V_RocKs 06-26-2007 10:54 PM

Well, I stopped using 8 plys of toilet paper and then got a shitty hand. So now I use 12 just to be sure.

Yes, but we all know that NO ONE is going to dispose of them properly and that in 10 years we will all be talking about how much mercury has leaked into the ground water because of this FIX....

JP513 06-26-2007 10:59 PM

I plan to watch it in the next few days . . . will let u know.

yeah, just like you, i tie my fluorescent lamps to magical balloons that carry them to far away planets in outer space that aren't affected when they break.

Freerepublic is a real site? I thought it was supposed to be a satirical site developed for the Anne Coulters of the world to share sex change tips.

SleazyDream 06-27-2007 01:12 AM

i thought about a hybrid but bought a deisel instead. yes - that movie influenced me HUGLY to do so.

Pffft... a FLC only contains about 5mg of mercury. I'm not that worried about the environment that I'll go out of my way to dispose of the bulb in a special manor. I put them in the trash like every other sane American.

Your a smart guy. I have read some of your posts. If you add CO2 to closed environment it raises the temp. terraiums etc have this problem. The earth is really complex but if we add enough long enough it is well within probility that we would have this effect. I read the counter proof posted here and the fact that 2005 was the hottest year but was very very close to the stats for 1998 is not comforting to me.

I also have not seen anyone refute that Greenland is melting more. They simply discuss how high the water is rising and how rapidly... So something is happening it is more of a call on how bad is it.

Tom_PM 06-27-2007 06:22 AM

I find it hard to believe that a thinking person would avoid replacing their wasteful lightbulbs on the position that when they have to throw away a dead CFL, it might add mercury to the landfill. Robbing peter to pay paul.

You're also not supposed to throw out dead batteries either because they leak toxic chemicals and metals. I wonder how many toss them in the garbage. 99%?

Wilbo 06-27-2007 06:37 AM

I decided to vote Republican next time.

LilBro 06-27-2007 06:40 AM

changed out th elightbulbs, no longer use paper plates/cups, driving less(about 200miles less a month).

Next car i get i would like to average 30mpg or better

All this is complete rubbish, if you actually did some research instead of gobbling everything up that the people that have an interest in you thinking we have nothing to do with global warming (ot that the phenomena actually exists), you'd find they are guilty of exactly what they are accusing Al Gore of in the first place

Quote:

Al must have taken lessons from Michael Moore in how to slap together out right lies, innuendos, half truths, and how to quote completely out of context in order to make the rest of liberal America run around shouting doom and gloom from the mountain tops.
Quote:

But Al Gore has not gotten it right; he never had it right to begin with. From claiming to have invented the internet
If you look into what Gore actually said you might find out that this whole "I invented the internet" is a line invented by the republicans to discredit Gore.

Sure the movie is a bit sensationalist but that is normally needed to get people interested in a subject (doesn't matter if it's left, right or middle of the political scale, they all do that)

D 06-27-2007 08:09 AM

Having still never seen the movie, myself - I find the ignorance in this thread rather disturbing.

It's even to the point that it's boastful.

Whether or not you agree that we're the cause of it, the Earth is warming, peeps.

And I, for one, tend to think that all this shit we keep shovelling into the atmosphere (perhaps counpounded by the rate that we're deforesting the Earth) has to have some negative effects - whether they're as dramatic as portrayed by Mr. Gore, or not.

You don't need to give into any hype - simply take an afternoon and go to the science section of your local library, and check out the data acquired over the last 50 years for yourself.

:2 cents:

scardog 06-27-2007 08:11 AM

Yes. I decided to use 10 times the amount of energy than the average citizen, and build several large houses to live in. I also decided when promoting a movie, that I will still use private Jets to travel, even though it creates a giant carbon footprint. But, I will continue to ask you little people to change your lightbulbs and walk to work. Wait, that's Al Gore. As for me, I changed my lightbulbs and stopped wiping myself effectively. :thumbsup

slapass 06-27-2007 09:27 AM

WTF??? Like the person above me said. The facts are that we are heating up.

Is Al Gore a great guy? Who cares it was information that he gave out. Did he skew it or misrepresent some things? No clue but the over all message was clear. Back to "would you hit it?" and "should I spend 250k on the next Ferrari?" threads.

Al Gore is a money grubbing liar and all of this global warming hysteria is just that - hysteria. It's all over-hyped and is mostly nothing but fear mongering. Al Gore is only in it for the money.

If you do watch Al Gore's "documentary" make sure you also watch The Great Global Warming Swindle.

Best line from that movie, and the bottom line: "CO2 is irrelevant".

Also be sure to pay attention to the research being done by Henrik Svensmark of the Danish Space Research Institute. His research basically shows that our climate is controlled by cosmic rays and the sun.

Cosmic rays blamed for global warming

How much do you think he makes on the speeches? He is an x president and prominent in politics still. He could speak on tax reform and make the same.
