I'm a little confused - what is the motivation to shower before the gym, when there's a likely expectation to shower after the gym already?

Do you shower, go to the gym, and shower again? Or just shower before the gym?

If you do any close-contact workouts - say martial arts training of any sort, it's always good manners to be odor-free. Unless you plan on overpowering them with your stench...

On the surface, a shower before and after a workout does appear to be redundant, but it feels great.

I agree with Franck, I usually shower after the gym.

Hmm - I see your point in this instance, but I don't equate "gym" to "training" in that way. But beyond that, I didn't seem to have a problem with it when I was doing judo (prior to my severe shoulder injury). I'll definitely consider it if I ever decide to get back into it - I love feeling great :)

Nope - I'm clean 24/7. I just happened to be the type of person that enjoys being clean at all times.

I don't, but there are some people at my gym who really need to as a courtesy to the rest of us!

Living in Australia, showering before and after exercise is a luxury responsible people don't have. After. Always after.

As I'm the only person in my Apartment Complex's gym when I typically go, no.

If I went out to a gym, probably. I don't think I really wake up until I'm half way through my morning shower.

Afterwards,one shower per day for me

If I go first thing in the morning, then I shower after. But if I go later in the day, then I'll still have my morning shower.

I run in the morning and shower after than then go to the gym in the afternoon. So I guess yes, but not specifically.

I shower when I get up, after I exercise and before I sleep.

The only time I would shower specifically before the gym is if I was exercising later in the day especially during summer because...

-It wakes you up as it gets the blood flowing, warms up the muscles a bit.

-As a courtesy to others who don't like to smell dried sweat.

-If I am swimming or using sauna/steam.

-It cleans your pores of dead skin, dried sweat etc enabling you to sweat easier and therefore keep cooler during a workout.

no. we have water restrictions... only 1 shower per person per week.. hard times

I also shower before the gym if i didn't shower late the night before. I don't want to start my workout feeling sticky or sweaty . It makes me feel awake and ready to train. then when i get home I'll shower again and make an egg white with spinach / mushroom and some type of meat omelet . On an odd occasion I'll jump in the pool after the gym and not shower till a bit later in the day. like today .. i went to the gym and then spent most of the day in the pool. I just jumped out of the shower so i won't shower before the gym tomorrow.

LOL I do, if I just wake up and go to the gym. I hate feeling all oily and yucky before a work out. Plus I feel bad if my trainer as to smell my stinky ass before I even start breaking a sweat! hahah jk, I hope Im not that stinky! :(
